Getting Started and Forum Tips (Includes how to post pics)
Hi! Welcome to DiscussDogs, the friendliest dog forum on the web.
Below the main menu bar you will see a row of pictures- these are the most recently added user photos to the gallery.
Message headquarters- this white box should greet you with a message and your username, your last log-in time, how many Private Messages (or PMs) you have, and shortcut links to your Profile, sort list of YOUR Topics and Replies. You can use these to quickly see the threads you've started or commented on and whether or not they've been replied to since.
Below the Message center is your true navigational bar and will be your best friend. It contains many useful shortcuts and options that will help you get more out of the forum. The menu bar starts with "User CP" and ends with "Log Out" on the right. Feel free to explore these features, and if you have questions about what any of the menus do, see the FAQ (also linked to on the Menu Bar) here:
Quick definition of key menu bar features:
User CP- this will take you to the place where you may edit signatures, upload or select the url of a photo to be used as your site avatar, and change/edit your profile details and site settings. You may start a photo album,
New Posts- this handy feature will take you to a list of all the threads that have been replied in since the last time you visited (or refreshed) the site. This way you do not have to crawl the forums to figure out what has been posted.
Unanswered Threads- a list of threads that have had no replies. Check this once in a while and see if you can't help someone who's gone without any responses to their questions or postings.
Search- if you are looking for a certain topic or posts by a particular user, you can search here or go to the Advanced search page to narrow your results.
How to post pictures on the site:
I use Photobucket to save my pics online if I'm going to be sharing them on more than one site. It's free, and when you go there and upload your pics it will give you a link for each one that says for posting on Bulletin Boards and Forums- just click on it to copy the link and paste it right in your post. There are other sites that offer similar services, just find one that you enjoy!
Additionally, if you are starting a thread or used the "Post Reply" button (you can click the "Go Advanced" button if you did a Quick Reply already) you should have a toolbar above with a list of fonts, colors, emotes and a paper clip. Use that paper clip to attach the photos from your computer to any post you make, reply or original. When making a post in the Dog Registry, it works a little differently. Scroll down towards the Submit button at the bottom of the page and click on Manage Attachments to include a picture:
As was touched on earlier in this guide, you can also go to your User CP which is on the brown navi-bar above and from that page under Networking on the left-hand menu it says "Pictures and Albums." Go there and upload pics to your own personal album.
This post may be edited in the future as features and site usage changes. If there's anything else you'd like to see posted here, please let me know!
