Puppy makes strange snorting noise?

I have a 12 week old puppy... She makes a strange noise... hard to describe. She's sucking in air really fast through her nose, it makes a sort of snore/pig sound (not high pitched). It happens a few times a day, usually during a nap, but occasionally just when she's relaxing somewhere. Usually lasts 3-5 "snorts" and then she's okay. Just wondering if it's normal? Or do I need to try and get her in to be seen by the vet Monday?

What kind of puppy is she? My Boston has always made noises like this. If it is not a Boston or a breed that has the short snout, I am thinking respiratory problem of some type. It is good you have a vet appointment for her.
Good luck and let us know how she is.

She's an aussie/lab mix. We'll be off to the vet tomorrow, she started sneezing some white gunky stuff this morning and her eyes are kind of runny. She doesn't seem lethargic, tho... so hoping it's just a cold, or perhaps her adjusting to the new house and the cats (have only had her a week). We'll see what the vet says.... Will post an update.

It sounds like she's just doing what we call 'reverse sneezing'. It's usually harmless, but if she's also got the nasal discharge it's a good idea to take her in.

I agree that especially with the discharge she needs to be checked by the vet. I wonder if she was given an Intra-tract vaccine when you got her? My dogs snort like this for a week or so after the vaccine. One of my dogs also has allergies and snorts like this when he is having seasonal problems.

Sounds like an inverted sneeze. It's pretty common. If she doesn't stop on her own if you blown in her nose she will stop. It's nothing dangerous. I have seen it many times, including my mil's pit.

The vet says it's allergies.... but didn't say much else

Think I need to look for a new vet... was not happy. I have no clue what to do with Nahzi... avoid walking? Change food? What is she allergic to? He says she's too young to test...and that I could give her Benadrul.... and that was it.

My 14 wk. old Shih-tzu has just started this snorting noise but it doesn't come and go. It' all the time. Does anyone have any experience with this?

My shih tzu snores if she is sleeping or went her head is tilted in some direction where her airway is blocked. Occ. sneezes. But not all of the time. You might want to go to the vet to make sure something isn't stuck in the nose.
