Temporary Bark Prevention

I am going on vacation and my mother is going to take care of my dogs. She has had surgery in the past 2 months and is worried about one of my dogs, Hunter, barking. She wants to use some sort of collar to prevent him from barking, either shock or spray. He doesn’t bark much but he sleeps with me and gets a little anxious when he sleeps alone even though my other dog is around him.

My question is this, if I get a collar to prevent barking, do you guys think that will permanently change his personality? I somewhat like that he expresses himself and I don’t want to stifle it since it’s normally not excessive. He is a 6 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

I don't know anything that can solve the barking but some quick training might help.

Direct Hunter to stop barking and give him a treat. The reward system helps
