School's Out!

Last day of puppy class today!
Freddy and I were sad to go, but we had a great last class. We played loads of games, like doggy relay with obedience, and musical chairs (last dog's bum to hit the ground was out.).
Freddy managed to go through the agility tubes no problem, which was great! I was so proud.
We won a couple of prizes and got a certificate as well as some nice treats.
Only a couple things made me sad to leave. One was that Cracker, the lurcher pup, was acting agressively towards other dogs, something he'd never done before. He started snarling at Dudley the Retriever/Poodle, and the lab Barney. He even snarled at Freddy when he sniffed his bum. I think the owner will sort that, though, he seems very commited.
I can't say the same for Dolly the Jack Russell, though.
I noticed that whilst her owner and her were sat down, her mama went to tickle her tummy and she snapped and snarled. She stopped when she was told no gently, but I worry. Her owners seem the type that will excuse the behaviour and dismiss it as puppy nipping and such, just make excuses, really. Which is sad because they won't sort it, and I'd give it less than a year before Dolly is in a rescue centre for agression problems. Right now they could sort it, but they won't. It just makes me think about how breeds aren't chosen with more care, and how people excuse and tolerate the behaviour instead of training them out of it.
Oh well.
Was a great class, and Freddy and I will be going to Junior Puppy Classes in about a month's time when he's calmed down a little.

Congratulations! I'm new to this forum, so do you mind me asking what kind of dog Freddy is? How long have you had him? And are the puppy classes well worth the money?

Hey there!
Freddy is a Miniature Schnauzer, he's now about 4 months and I've had him since he was 8 weeks. I love him to pieces.
And most certainly YES, puppy classes are very much worth the money, great socialisation for the dogs and great bonding time for you!

I would definately recommend it, it's so much fun for you and Tyler, and the socialisation is so valuable.

Tulip, a very observant 17 year old with first dog. I think your dog might become more agressive as it gets a bit older, it will not be a problem for you, just saying it happens with dogs as they age.

Congrats to your dog. I hope you keep up with the agility training, wish I had done it with one of mine when I had a yard big enough to set up a course. Your dogs breed might not be famous for that training but pugs were not known to be either and one, that I saw on a dog show, won some awards.

Your dog is luckly to have a very good human.

Excuse me for saying so..but that is the biggest line of bullcrap I have ever read! If you go and read everything in that post, where was it said that Freddy was in ANY way aggressive? She was talking about the aggressiveness of OTHER dogs, not Freddy. I sure would like to know where you get this fact that all dogs get aggressive as they age! My dog is 7 years old now, she has never once been aggressive, not as a pup and definitely not now

I agree quite strongly - Freddy is in no way agressive and has never shown any signs of being. I know a dog that's now 17 and has never been agressive. I'd like to see some evidence to support that if you don't mind, maybe some statistical finding?
Also, agressive dogs are very much a problem for both owner and dog.

Way to go Tulip and Freddy.............if I lived close to you I would take you out for lunch to celebrate. Since I don't next yummy fast food you have think of me and give Freddy a big kiss for being such a good boy.
This thing about dogs becoming more aggressive as they get older is absolute BS and that is saying it nicely. I am in my 50's--I grew up in a kennel and have been in my own breed for over 20 years and I have never heard of or seen such a thing.

Bahaha, I'll eat some chips and think of you.
Exactly, that's completely ridiculous. P.s. Lucky you for growing up in a kennel, I hope that your folks cleaned it out everyday and brought you fresh water.
