German Shorthaired Pointers are fairly versatile field dogs.

What's flushing and retrieving? I'm lost in the lingo.

Flushing is when the dog chases the birds out of the bush so the hunter can shoot at them as they fly away.

Retrieving is when the dog goes and gets any birds that are shot.

Best Big Game Dog

There are a couple of big game dogs that come to mind, My best dogs are 2 Jagd terriers they have a nose very close to a hound and a prey drive like no other breed. # 2 is the Black Mouth Cur very good hunter for sure Way more expensive to feed than the 2 terriers..

I second German Shorthair Pointers, an extremely versatile breed. We have upland fowl hunting GSPs but a few we'll take on hog hunts as well.
