Transportation

So how do you guys transport your dogs? Crates? Just let them sit in the backseat? Front seat? Your lap? Lol

Mine are excellent travellers, true military brats... they sit/lay down freely in the back seat...

We have a law(or so i'm told) that dogs can't be in laps. Mine have always been in the back seat. I am going to go to crates tho. i just think it is safer now that I do alot of rush hour travel and work so much farther from home.

mine use the back seat.i harness them in and buckle them in.

just like people in a crash, dogs will fly through a window and be ejected...better safe than sorry.

We have an Explorer Sport with tethers in the back (seats folded down). We tether them to a flat buckle collar or a harness, depending on the dogs- we have to get harnesses for two of them so we can harness all of them and we don't always have a harness that fits our fosters. I'm working on that.

In the state of PA there's a law (new as of the last two years) that requires that your dog be tethered in somehow- with a seat belt or leash or in a crate. Most people don't adhere but then, most people still let their dogs' heads hang out the window so I'm sure they're not thinking along those lines (safety). My dogs don't mind being tethered and it serves multi purposes- it not only keeps them safe should I crash but it keeps wayward fosters from trying to come up to hang out with the driver and it keeps them secure when I need to get out of the vehicle or open the hatch to retrieve them (no jumping out and getting away.)

I have always had the dogs in the back seat. The beagle had a harder time adjusting to it, I think his previous owners had the habit of letting him sit on their laps. The GSD has always had her home in the car be the backseat, so she is just used to it.

I have never had a problem with it, but I think that for the TM pup, I might have to crate, especially when heading to shows.

Wow, I never knew about that PA law. I use a harness/seatbelt for Lucy but Holly is so well-behaved in the vehicles that I always just let her sit in the backseat.

I used to crate Lily in the back of my jeep, but now she just sits back there with a "doggy seatbelt". She loves it, especially if the window is down just a bit and she can stick her nose out.

Yup!

House Bill 1737 from 2005. Rescuers, show people and others really complained about it but I don't think it's being enforced really well anyway. I like it! I care more about the dogs' health and safety than my convenience.
