Getting energy out of a hyper dog

I have a hyper boston terrier. We are always looking for new ways to get extra energy out. She plays ball, runs on the treadmill and now plays tetherball. Any other suggestions?

Here is great video of her playing tetherball. It always entertains our friends.

Exercise is great but I would worry about the repetitive jumping, especially in a dog not bred for athleticism. It could be very hard on her joints and the way she is twisting as she jumps is just asking for a cruciate ligament tear. A dog should be at a good (lean) weight and needs warmed up before repetitive jumping every time. My suggestion is to use a Flirt Pole instead of tetherball and keep the dog on the ground. This also enables you to let your dog run instead of just jumping, and works the brain which helps tire a dog more.

Mental exercise, like training behaviors and tricks, is often just as good if not better at exhausting a dog than pure physical exercise.

I agree with Starfish, keeping her on the ground is important.

They used to make a soft flexible tubing that fit on the end of a garden hose. When turned on, the tube flipped and flopped all over the ground like an insane snake. If your dog like water, it might be a good way to cool off on one of these hot summer days and give her exercise. I've never had one for my dogs but a friend had a rottie that played non-stop chasing that thing until he was pooped.

I wish I could remember the name.

I have to check this out. I know my dog would absolutely love to play with one of those as he loves to go after the hose whenever I turn it on. I am going to ask at the pet store next time I go.

Have you considered bike riding? My dog isn't great on a walk (not bad either, just bored) so I got an old bike at a yard sale and it's great exercise! She never pulls and there's much more energy burned for the time spent.
Hope this helps.
