DNA test results
Test: Mars Veterinary's "Wisdom Panel: Insights"
Test range covers 170+ breeds.
Here's what her results look like:
Basically, "your dog is a mutt!"
Just thought I'd share for those who have any interest in this kind of thing.

Well, the asterisked results are "low confidence/minor" according to the paperwork. So the shepherd/golden/italian greyhound (lol?) are more iffy or maybe farther back in her gene pool, I guess.
I always thought she was a border collie/golden mix probably, so now I'm just calling her a mix. The results didn't disappoint me! I am thinking I would like to test her again in a few years. They received her swabs on 12/20 and I got the email saying my results were posted online (.pdf download) on 1/4, so two weeks is all it took!
I can't even guess as to what's in Emma. She's adorable, but very mixy. What are your thoughts on her?

yeah, at least your not screaming that IG is IMPOSSIBLE! I mean LOOK AT HER! NO way!!
The people on the amazon reviews throwing fits that their 75lb dog could not possibly have a toy dog as a great grandparent...well... I know I don't look alot like my great grandparents
My personal guess would be JRT and Sheltie based on the known sheltie mixes I have met, Tho she has lots of BC and GSD type behaviors... She is low and long, tail has a "flag" of hair...but she also has white toe tips, which I read once was a possible piebald marker. The coat is double coat, but just barely, shes is very ballballball and velcro dog. She also vitually never barks. Shes like 100 diff breeds I bet
over the years I've posted her pic with a "please guess" and generally people are stumped.

lol. No, I'm not stupid enough to think she can't have small breeds in her past. I'm not sure you could convince me that her *parents* were 10 lb dogs, though. The only reason that I would be really skeptical about the IG is more or less the thought: "how many IGs are out there uh, pollenating mixed breed dogs?"
Please do post your results when you get them!

Sorry if I missed this somewhere. What is IG
We had a dog DNA tested. The results made me more confused than before we had it. The dog looked like a pit mix. The results were Boston Terrier, Chow, Husky and Yorkie and they said the Yorkie was really high in the mix and probably a parent. Possible I guess but I have to tell you that one threw me.

IG = Italian Greyhound
When did you have the dog tested? DNA testing is a new technology and every year new advancements are made and more breed DNA signatures become isolated and cataloged as well. This is one reason I think we'll be testing Sally again in a few years, I want to see what happens.

Oh silly me of course Italian Greyhound IG Sometimes it doesn't take much to confuse me.
We had the dna test about 2 years ago. Maybe they have improved already. I think we paid about $60 at the time and we had them repeat the test to see if the results came out the same in case of contamination. It did come out exactly the same. Got to admit it was kind of fun.

Oh, it's definitely gotten better in the last two years. I think it'll be fun to see if we get the same results a few years from now because three of the breeds that showed up were "low confidence." The only things confirmed as definitely being there are dalmatian and collie. Everyone asks if my setters are "long haired dalmatians" so now I guess I can say "we DO have a long haired dalmatian mix- she's the one without the spots!"
