I think that a dog needs to run a lot. I take my dog out to run and run and run. I have even trained her to run beside while I ride my bike so we can go a long way. She stays fit and happy and she sleeps well.

Keeps Master in good shape, too. My wife and I take turns running our Labrador. He gets to run every day, and we're both in our best shape ever. No cutting corners either, or he'll turn those big crown eyes on you: "What? We're going home NOW? I just got limbered up!"

Boy I wish I could bring you to New York to run my two dogs. My Rio loves to run. But my Nicky if you even try to walk him he hates it. We got him a few months ago and he never was really on a leash he has chewed through 4 dog leashes. Finally bought this week a chain leash so he cant chew. I feel like I am dragging him when we walk. Rio wants to go , go go.. Any suggestions how to get lazy bone Nicky to run.

Take Nicky to a quiet place where its just you and him and keep comforting him, let him know he's safe on a leash and that its alot of fun to go for walks. Let him drag it around the house every now and then before going for walks and play with him with it on so he associates the leash with FUN FUN FUN! I had one who hated to walk and the day he decided to put his trust in me and go it was such a change, he literally went from having to be drug/carried back home to tail held high running and bounding in about 10 minutes. I think one thing that really helped was his love of swimming so I carried him to the creek about 1/2 mile from my house as a pup and let him swim. After awhile I started stopping in sight of the water and setting him down so he would walk to the water. Then kept progressing until he realized walking leads to fun adventures! Just speak confidently, assure the dog he's safe with you and never allow him to get away with stopping and then getting petted or carried back home as he will think its appropriate behavior. How old is the dog?
