Well, ClarkFarm said that there is one in every family... I guess she was right. My cousin acquired an american bulldog pup who was abandoned (left in the backyard to fend for himself!) by his army family when they were transfered overseas. Well, he got picked up by the base patrol and was adopted out... then given to my cousin within the week. Seems no one wanted the poor guy. Turns out she didn't want him either, she breeds (grrrrrr), and his ears aren't perfect. What a pity. She called me since I foster for a rescue to see if I could get him into a rescue. I said sure, I have a soft spot for bullies, just bring him up on your next trip up. Thankfully one of our 2 fosters went to her forever home last week :-) She lives 10 hours away. 4 days go by and I get a call "my pup and the AB have kennel cough, The pup can't breathe, I'm rushing her to the vet and I'm taking the AB back to the pound". 3 days later the AB has been evected to the back yard and still has no vet care. 2 more days pass, still no vet care. "I don't have time to get him to the pound" Well, that was it for me. 23 hours of the next 24 I made the round trip (flooding in DC slowed us down a bit). My wonderful vet was willing to see him on the way home. Diagnosis: Kennel Cough, Severe sunburn, bacterial skin infection, severly underweight, multiple bite wounds to the face (thankfully not severe, and believe it or not the boy isn't the least bit dog agressive!), and flea allergies. Poor Baby! And he is only about 9 months old. Well, It's been 2 days, and I'm afraid this guy might not make it to rescue.... I don't know if I can give him up! All he's been through and he is completley nonagressive. Loves everyone he meets critter or human. Bit of seperation anxiety though, gee wonder why? Needless to say the little man has stolen my heart. I only wish I could look at life with the joy he does even with what he has already been through and his continuing medical issues! Guess I might fail fostering 101 this time. Well, any advice? I'd love to hear from the bully folks, I had a boxer for many years before he passed away, but I've never lived with an american bulldog before. This one seems to have the wigglebutt complex though!
