Hi everyone
Please can I have some advice.
I have a 10 week old English Staff she is still awaiting her 2nd injections so can't go out at the moment. (apart from the garden)
The advice I would like concerns the length of walks when she can go out.
Ten years ago we got (and still have ) a golden retriever who my son used to take to the park every day, I can't remember for how long but it was a fair time. Well to cut a long story short it turned out she had very bad hip problems which may have been made worse by lengthy running around sessions. I don't want to make the same mistake again so would like your opinions on a reasonable time to play/run in park.
Thanks for any help

I walk and play with my dog until she's had enough. I don't think walking is bad for their hips. You could have your dog screened for hip problems now...I think a good Vet could tell if their would be any future problems. My old dog had hip probs too and she ran, jumped and swam like a fiend all of her life. I could never have taken that away from her as that's what she loved.

I normally walked my pups about 15-20 minutes a day. Walking shouldn't cause any hip problems. Just make sure you don't allow your pup to jump up or down on high things or climb steps. That puts a lot on the hips and elbows.

lesley jane,
Don't allow your pup to become overweight, keep him slim. Most people over feed something totally unnatural to a dog.

Thanks for your replies.
I will work on about 20mins a day.
Stark I am really keeping an eye on her weight. Staffs are so lovely when they are fit and barrel like when over fed, apart from the fact it's so unhealthy it looks really unattractive when they are really fat.
