Hi all. I have a wonderful male Sheltie named Simon. He is almost 3 years old. I was interested in chatting with other owners of this wonderful breed and maybe exchange some info about their personalities, grooming, etc. I hope to read from some others soon. :)

I guess I'm the only Sheltie owner here. I did see a few nice looking Shelties in the photo section so there are some out there somewhere. I guess I'll wait some more and see if anyone responds.

I own American Pit Bull Terriers, but have seen a lot of shelties at agility trials and have friends that own them LOL does that count?
Do you do any performance events w/ your dog. I know they are great workers

Simon isn't in agility yet, but I do have some hope for him in the future. There is an agility club around here I have been considering and I need to get out there and just watch what they do with their dogs. I hadn't heard that Sheltie's get bad teeth as they get older, but Simon is the only Sheltie I've ever had, so I like learning new things about the breed.
You say your Sheltie is 14? Wow, that's great! Have you had her since she was a pup? Simon likes to snort when he gets excited. I wonder if this is a sheltie trait also. I hope to hear from you again soon! :)

i got her when she was about 6 wks old,,she use to herd my son and his friends in the yard and nip them on their butts,,I had to be carefull she could pinch them pretty good,,she dosen't run to much now. one thing she does and always has done,,is when anyone takes off their shoes she rolls her whole head in each shoe,,I have heard other sheltie owners say their dogs do this too. she has been a good dog..she sleeps alot now..makes me sad

Simon doesn't do the shoe thing, but he definitely herds by running circles around us in the yard. It's kind of funky taking him for a walk and restraining his circling with his leash as he still wants to circle but can't. He hasn't nipped people, but he is beginning to show nipping signs towards our cat. I've got a feeling we're entering into a new Sheltie phase that we're going to have to stay on top of to keep our cat from getting nipped and Simon's face from becoming hamburger! :p

yup,,if the cat can she will tear his face up,,he is not trying to be mean,,he just wants to chase her,,,also,,one of my neighbors has my dogs nephew,,he is a great dog,,hes pretty funny,,in the fall he herds all the leafs in the yard when the wind is blowing,,u can tell when he has been working,,the leafs are all piled in all four corners of the yard against the fence

Hello all!!
I am the proud mama of two male shelties. One is "Louie", 3 yrs old and the other is "Dewey", he is 6 1/2 mos. old. Louie is sable/fawn/white and Dewey is sable/white.
I love my boys. They are my constant companions since I quit my job and my husband has been deployed overseas. Now that I have been training them exclusively "Louies') behavior has improved 150%. My husband never seemed to make him mind when walking at night and he became very aggressive when strangers approached.
He is now willing to stop and meet new people and not growl. He is eager to please mama by sitting and showing his good manners. The puppy is still in training and is sometimes a real handful but I believe it is because he is competing with the older "alpha" dog.
I have even seriously entertained the idea of purchasing yet another one from the breeder that I purchased "Dewey" from. And yes, you guessed it he would be "Huey". :)

Hello Herbnurse. You have 2 beautiful boys! I was wondering though, before you got your second Sheltie, did you know if your first one would take to having another around? Hubby and I keep considering adding another Sheltie to the family, but we're not sure how simon would take to it. He always barks at other dogs he sees and I'm concerned he might not like the idea. How can I be sure so I don't cause a serious problem?

I've got a Sheltie girl. Her name is Missy and she is 6 years old.
We recently almost lost her to hepititus, but she has recovered well and is perkier than ever! She lost some hair from her thyroid being low, but that has also come back to normal.
This is her...my little baby :)

Wow lots of shelties on this board. I though I was the only one too. I have a two year old little girl who has retired from the show ring this summer. Her name is Brandwyn and we call her Brandi. She's a real sweetie.
