I lost my sheltie name skya about a month ago. She was 12. It is such a hard thing after having her around her whole life. Each day is stilll a bit of a struggle. I just hope it gets easier.

You're right, Smith, it is hard. I lost my yorkie two months ago is an accident and I just now feel like I can start looking for a new dog. I think about her every day and I feel an ache inside still.

She will live forever in your heart, and that's what counts.

I lost our 15 year old Shep mix, Samantha, 2 years ago this coming Thanksgiving. Sometimes I think I still hear her, clicking along behind me.

If you don't have another dog..get one now. It's true that nothing can replace your old dog but a new dog, especially a young dog will be a wanted distraction. At first you may feel guilty about sharing yourself with anew dog but that will pass.

I put my old dog Samantha down last October and reading some of the posts here has me crying for her already. A month after losing her I adopted another Lab/Border/mistery dog mix. She was 10 months old and is such a rascal that her antics made me laugh. I was real attached to my old dog and now find myself attached to Lucy in the same way.

Being so much younger Lucy is much more needy, which is just what I needed. A few people told me not to do it yet...and I considerd it. But..I am so glad I did get another dog right away. Just remember a new dog isn't trained like your old one, be patient and let it's personality come out.

There's a dog out there that needs you.

I am so sorry for your loss :( . I agree it is hard and you know our dogs and dogs in general are the only things that we will get over and over that break our hearts. It's amazing. I know when I lost my first dog I kept saying never ever will I get another it hurt to bad without him. But I have to say Bear taught me how to love dogs and now Ava is in my life and I will never be without a dog.
