I have short haired dogs - whippets and a greyhound. Does anyone ever take these types of dog to a groomer? Is there a point to this?
My sister says I spoil her, but I take my Jack Russell to the groomer once in a while. She gets her stray hairs trimmed, her nails done and a good shampoo. It is easier to pay someone else to do it than to do it myself and I think it is good for her to be handled by someone else, too.

All my short-to-medium haired dogs just gets bathed and trimmed at home, then a run over with a curry(sp?) brush to remove the little shedded hair they do have. Max (schipperke) on the other hand gets trimmed up and all "done-up" by a groomer. With a short haired dog like a greyhound and whippet I'd just do it at home.
I think there is always a point to it. There are groomers right down the hall from me, (at the clinic), and you'd be amazed at the # and different types of dogs brought in, whether it be just for a shampoo, comb out, or to have their nails clipped. The groomers are expericienced, have the tools, and the facilities to get the job done right. MOST of the dogs, (and cats) seem to be ok with it.

I put mine right in the tub and use a zoom groom or curry on them. I also dremel their nails.
I dn't trust too amny people with my dogs LOL I'm overly protective I guess. Plus it is cheaper to do it your self

I find it cheaper and easier just to throw my Greyhound in the tub. If you dont want to buy dog shampoo you can use a tearless baby shampoo. These dogs rarely need baths tho.

You dremel the nails? Better than clipping?

I often get short haired dogs in for a bath and nail clipping. Most owners are scared to trim their dogs nails. Clipping the nails has a tendency to splinter the nail. The dremmel keeps it from doing this and you can get them a little shorter too. Some dogs don't like the feel of it though. And then there are some that hate their nails being touched at all. Anyways, it is really up to you and how comfortable you are with grooming them yourself or someone else.
