View Full Version : Flatulance Problem
I have a friend that has a bouvier (spelling ) that has excessive flatulance. Is that a problem with that breed or a result of the food ?

I had a Bouvier for 15 years. It is a problem with the breed. My dog, who slept in our bedroom, would let go so bad it would wake us up! He would get up, sneeze, and leave the room. :D
I learned that if I mixed enough plain yogurt into his food to coat his kibble it greatly reduced the frequency and strength of his flatuence.

You can also add digestive enzymes to the food.
It may be the food you are feeding just plain old doesn't agree w/ him as well.
What food are you using?
She is currently being fed some kind of science diet. I told the owner that I thought it might be the food but didn't have enough knowledge to really know.
I told her to try Life's Abundance because i have seen and heard a lot of good things happening from that food. The animal also didn't have a sheen in its coat. The coat was thick etc. but had no sheen. My experience that is also a food problem. Thanks a lot for your reply.

Science diet is NOT a good food at all IMO. It is also on the top WORST food list from Whole Dog Journal. That may be a big part of it
There is a good thread going on what people here feed their dogs. Take a peek
Patch,
Thanks for the info. I have been reading that thread on food. I'll pass it on to the dog owner.

My Bouvier reacted to wheat based foods. His coat would "blow" and he would get hot spots after about a month on anything wheat based. I tried him on every premium food that was available at the time, (He's been gone 12 years and I still miss him terribly), it didn't matter what I fed him, he had a flatulence problem as did every other Bouvier I was acquainted with. Believe me it was a frequent topic among owners! We were involved in A.K.C. conformation and obedience as well as Schutzhund. Nothing anyone ever suggested, including his vet, addressed his problem compeletly but the yogurt had the greatest effect.
Bouvier's do not have shiny coats. Even a jet black Bouvier's coat will be dull compared to other breeds.
