Hmmm I'm curious as to why they have the foods with mega high protein that really no research seems to be available on as rated with 6 stars.

There is some controversy that these types of food may cause problems in the long term with the kidneys not being able to process that amount from what I have read. They claim to be the next est thing as compared to the RAW diet , but don't even come close IMO. The moisture content in Raw is very different from kibble and plus RAW is not processed so I don't feel they should really be able to state that in their advertisement

The kibble I use is rated 5 stars and I find it much better than the ones with 6, but that is just my opinion on it. I feed Timberwolf Organics Bison as well as RAW

What does everyone else feel about this?

I switched Luke over to Solid Gold Wolf King a couple months ago. He was getting Flint River Ranch Fish and Chips. They have both rated as 3 star. I looked at the 6 star and they were way higher in protien than I will give Luke. The high protien is good for a dog in vigorous training, but not for just an average active dog. I notice that most of the 6 star foods have a main ingredient of chicken also. Luke is allergic to chicken. I don't think I would take this list as gospel. I think it's just someone's opinion. It is a useful list though for referencing various foods.

I wondered at first if someone transposed the numbers on some of the protein contents- one food being listed at 42%!!! even if that number WAS transposed, 24% is still pretty high for a pet dog in my opinion- unless the owner takes them for 3 mile runs every day!

I feed Solid gold hundenflocken, not sure where it's rated on this list, but I'd certainly put it above a 42% protein food...

No those #s are correct that is the level of protein in those grain free foods.

The average dog needs between 20-28% depending on the activity level from what I've read. 24 is actually pretty average among dog foods. Your food is 22% which is right in the average range as well. 24% is not high.

I don't know if I like that site either....some of those foods are rated low with no substantiation behind it. I too do not think that the high protein, low-carb foods are the "best" because they are not the "best" for every dog. My dog did not do well on the Timberwolf Organics Wild and Natural Dry, (we have tried solid gold puppy, wellness puppy, CS puppy, EVO and Timberwolf Organics W&N) but he does best on Royal Canin compared to all those brands. Each dog is different, therefore it isn't fair to rate foods on which is the best, as it may not work wonders for every dog.

I agree with Papillon
Dogs react differently to different foods. Dale was on a high quality expensive dog food and it made him sick and itchy. Now he is on a food that is rated poorly on that list but he is doing wonderfully on it, his coat and skin have never looked better and his stomach no longer gets upset the way it use to.
Each owner is responsible for getting the best food they can for their dogs and the best food is whatever food your dog does well on.

I did not see BARF on the list. I guess you can't rate something they don't make money on.

I think lists like this one are just opinions. I think each dog has indiviual nutritional needs and such a list cannot really be used to ascertain what is "best". Trial and error along with education and observation will be much more accurate but thats my opinion. Sometimes I really think lists like that are marketing ploys.

The food I feed my dog (Purina Beneful) is not on that list at all. IMO, that is just a board, posting what they think are great foods for dogs. I think that you should feed your dog what you want to feed your dog, or whatever food your dog may eat. My Lily has a very sensitive stomach, and she is an extremely picky eater. It took me a long time to find a food she would eat. We went through Eukaneba, Science Diet, Pedigree, California's Best, Iams, and a few others I can't think of right off the bat. My mom had the Beneful at her house, and one day when we visited, Lily ate the entire bowl of it that my mom had left out for her dogs! LOL I switched her foods that very day, and she has been eating the Beneful ever since. I don't have to mix it with anything, not even a little water like the last foods. So, all in all, I am sticking with what she will eat. I would rather her eat some type of dog food, even if it may not always be the best in other people's opinions.
