I rescued a dog....

About a month ago, I was approached by a woman in a shopping center parking lot. She had seen Buddy in my car, and assuming that I was a dog lover, asked me to take her dog, before her husband sent it to the pound (for the third time in the dogs life....). I, being a soft-hearted person, could not refuse. I took the dog (a female lab/basenji mix) home with me.
The ride home was uneventful, even with both dogs in the back seat together. But when we got home it was another story. Buddy was not aggressive, but selfish. The new dog was wanting what belonged to Buddy (ie me, his bed, his toys....) and he did not want to share. Also, my husband and the new dog did not "click"........... but I was not turning the poor thing in at the pound, nor was I willing to return her to her previous life. So..... I called my daughter. Laura had been wanting a dog of her own, but she really wanted a husky........ well, when I told her the story, she couldn't help but agree to keep the dog. Now Laura and her dog "Gracie" are living happily together. Gracie sleeps in bed with Laura, goes on walks with her and has been a wonderful, loving addition to her life.
I guess that maybe I was meant to meet the woman in the parking lot...... Karma..... I saved a dog and gave my daughter a wonderful, loving pet.

Here's a pic of my "granddoggy"...........

What a happy ending. Kudo's for you for stepping up to the plate and making sure this little furbaby got a great home. Now Buddy is still in the family A great thing you did.

What a great story and a stunning dog. I adore Basenjis...but also know they are not the breed for me so I love them from afar. Did Gracie get the lab personality or Basenji? She definitely got the Basenji ears. Does she bark or yodel or something in between?

Some people are like Slinkies ....Not really good for anything......But they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

Gracie got more of the Basenji personality, I believe. She wants to get Laura's mini-macaw and her pet rats as well. Luckily they are all out of her reach! She barks sometimes, but when she is very happy (like when Laura returns home from school or visiting with me) she will yodel. It's both eerie and funny to hear..... sometimes it sounds like a cross between a wolf howl and a chuckling laugh... that's the best I can do to describe it.
