View Full Version : fencing
Ok - since no one has anything to say about my "go potty one place in the yard" question. How about any knowledge about under ground invisable fences. I'm leaning toward the Dog Guard system -their collar has am radio and 88 diget code so it won't go off because of garage door openers and it also has 32 level setting so they should be able to find the right one for my 2 dogs. (also works for cats I hear!)
My other option is called "Invisible Fence" and their salesman wasn't very good and didn't give me much info.
Any fence experts out there?
Thanks

My problem with invisible fencing is two fold.
1. If the "attraction" on the other side of the fence is strong enough, the dog will withstand the shock to leave. The problem is, the reward is usually not strong enough for the dog to endure it again to reenter the yard.
2. It does nothing to keep out strays etc.
I'm not saying it can't be a help, it's certainly cheaper, less obvious and it can be useful, but invisible fences do have thier drawbacks.

Another drawback to the invisible fence is that theres no protection at all from other things coming in, including strays as the post above noted. If you're intent on gettings one and have made up your mind, definitly look into it extensively as you seem to be doing, and get real peoples opinions and experiences with companies. I'd strongly suggest putting up a fence even if it's just a four foot picket or privacy preferably. They can look quite nice abd be bought reasonably. I think its better to have a very safe smaller portion of the yard for my dogs to play than a much more unsafe big place, its, if you're worried about cost. Either way, I'd suggest some sort of real barrier even a small one for their protection from kids or other dogs.
