Hi,

I have an English Cocker Spaniel who after drinking insists on licking my hand.

Why does she do this? I've noticed that sometimes her sister will lick her mouth and vice versa after dirinking so is this simply that she wants to give me some, or is it more complex?

This is (as far as i'm aware) not a problem, more of a cute little quirk and although sometimes i'd rather not have a wet hand, doesn't bother me.

Thanks,

Leigh.

I have never heard of that. Maybe your dog just wants to give you a big wet kiss! Doesn't seem harmful?

My boyfriend's lab does the same thing. She will be leaving us alone sleeping on her bed then get up for a drink and go find us to share the joy of water. Ick!

just my thoughts....

when they've been sleeping, get up, get a drink, lick you, then go back to sleep, it's the same as a human who gives a hug/kiss to another human when they get up to get something. I do it with my hubby and daughter :)

Why right after drinking? Seems the tongue doesn't stick to the arm as much LOL. Tino, our Dobe, likes to do this, but he prefers to kiss the face ;) Perhaps it's their way of wiping their mouths ;)

Though both our dogs have been known to rub their heads on our pants after drinking/eating.
