Im wanting to make Blades food myself as i dont really trust store and vet brandss ( dont trust vets period been screwed to often and to me they are concerned more with money then the animals )
With my first dane i made him boiled hamburger with steamed rice scrambled eggs mixed up with some small curd cottage cheese and plain yogurt but he was a 6month old pup when i got him....is this diet ok for Blade??? i was actually planning on putting in green beans lentils and maybe some pasta...He comes home today ...all i know if my first dane thrived on that feed. But pointers or even a better doggie dinner recipe would be great.

I used to have a dane that was black. I never showed her because she wasnt full blooded. She looked more like a dane though.

Hey all you Dane owners! I have a Dane too - Khubilai Khan 16 months - but I'm afraid I'm not much help with this topic; I simply buy his food.
Jennifer, since this is such a late post...what did you decide to do??

My female is 9yrs old and I've had her since she was 7wks. She's a mantle (black with white chest/feet) and she's awesome. Gets along great with my 7 mo old Yorkie:D

I have a Dane..Black Female. She has got to be the biggest and sweetest Dog I have ever owned. I, personally, just buy regular store food (monitoring Protein content) and she very healthy. I have heard about the B.A.R.F. diet for danes but haven't looked much into it.
Just wanted to say Hi to all fellow Dane owners ......

Well, Tori's half dane- I call her my "great shepherd", don't know if that counts. She is currently 7 months and about 75lbs, around 28" it the shoulder.

I have a dachshund but had Danes growing up! My sister has one now, Nessa she's deaf the darling!
We used to feed ours store bought food but sometimes we'd give them lean ground beef and rice, i know you're not supposed to switch up their diet but it was nice for them from time to time.

I have two Great Dane's, one is a mix w/ Rottie and adopted from the Humane Society. My second is a pure bred Brindle. Seems taller than most other Dane's we run into, he turned 5 in September and is starting to have problems getting up on his own, seems to be limping, and clearly stairs are a concern for him. He is active and the Vet has put him on Rimadyl and a new medicine that will also reduce inflammation and provide joint relief. My concern is that this is a degenerative hip condition. I am wondering if anyone else has been through this and can offer any advice.
