Gordon's Mom

Hello -
I just adopted a Yellow Lab/Greyhound from a shelter, and while at the shelter he was tested for cat aggression. He showed no signs.
Now that I have him home, he can't stop chasing my poor 10 year-old cat! The poor guy should be in retirement mode, laying around and soaking up the love...and he's terrified! I feel terribly, I really thought that they would get along.
Obviously, being half-Greyhound, it's inherent in Gordon's breed to chase. Is there anything I can do? I have tried giving the cat a safe place to go, but any time he steps a paw out of that safe place, Gordon is on him. I can't have Gordon chasing him, it's not fair to the poor cat. Any ideas? I'm willing to try ANYTHING to get them to live in harmony.
Thanks in advance for your advice,
Tobi
