Our small dog sleeps with us at night, under the covers are my wifes feet.

On two occasions now my wife has woke me up for me to discover that Shiner left a tiny bit of poop out while we were sleeping, like a large marble size. It's a very, very small amount. He always goes before bed and sleeps like a rock throughout the night, never gets up to wander around. When I get up to clean it he has the look of he knows he did something wrong without me saying or doing anything to him.

It doesn't seem like he is squatting under the covers because it's such a small amount. Could it be possible he is doing this in his sleep?

if he is an older dog,,geriatric,,older then 7,,then he could be doing this in his sleep,,there could be alot of reasons,,new food,,to cold outside,,he dosen't know why your aggravated,,just knows that your upset

I've heard of young dogs- a year or less- peeing in their sleep so I'm sure it's possible for them to poop too, so maybe ask your vet? I'm no medical expert, but that is a strange behavior, and I'd bet it was medical before behavioral. I bet it freaks your wife out!

my guess would be,,now that I know he is a year old,,that he gets in a deep sleep,,and his spincter muscle is just not developed enough,,I would venture to say that this will quit,,if that is what it is he'll out grow it
