I could use a little help with deleting spam and offensive material also banning users who are here to cause problems. Traffic is slow so it would not be much work.

PM me if you are interested.

Seriously, I am new here so I'm not sure how you like to run things, but I think there is a need to reduce the amount of off topic pissing matches some of these peeps get into. What starts out as a simple question about what to feed a dog turns into a 12 post long bs about if a certian breed of dog is aggresive??!! It is really annoying to sift through the useless ego matches just to get some useful infomation. I will not personaly entertian someone attacking or picking apart every word I type in here. It's people's OPINIONS.
They are by nature inherently bound to be different. Let the person who posted a question sort them out. If the posters feel the need to find out who has a bigger libido start a different thread PLEASE. If I offended anyone with this, sorry, but thats MY opinion. Don't bother quoting me and giving me yours, I won't respond. This is directed at the admin, Thanks.

I disagree. Topics never stay ON TOPIC. Thats what makes a thread a thread. If a moderator was present to guide the participants into staying on topic, they may make an effort to do so (those who are off topic), but in general, this is a discussion board and discussions take different paths.

very true, and I have to say that sometimes, people need to be corrected. Some people give out erronious information, not purposefully, but because they believe it to be true, and if other members KNOW the information to be false I think it's important that it's pointed out so that less experience dog owners don't get poor information. It's all about sharing ideas and opinions, but also about helping to educate less experienced forum members. We're basically all here to help, even if we disagree heatedly sometimes!

I Totally Agree On The Given Of False Info. Because It So Important When Someone Is Searching For Info That It Is The Right Stuff. Our Dogs Are Memebers Of The Family And We All Want To Make Sure We Are Doing The Right Thing . So Excellent Point !=)

Yep we can only give advice on what we had experienced. I for one would feel like a real ass if I tried to act like I knew it all and gave out wrong information. So so far I think everyone has given advice on what they had or knew of someone who had. I am going to tell you a story realy quick LOL. I use to go in a yahoo chat room and their was a realy good group of us and their was this lady who claimed she worked in some vet office as a vet tech. She would realy give out advice and to us she seemed like she knew of what she was talking about. So after some time a girl got out of her where the vet office was and the state. Well low and behold the girl knew of another lady on chat who also worked their. Well They called this lady out on it and she never came back into chat. I felt so bad for all those people she helped. After that it became one of those things where we all thought back and pulled together that this day this did not seem so on the up and up that day and so on. I think when a person begins to give you medical advice on any kind of forum chat room what ever. Double check just incase and do alot of research. Sorry for babbling LOL :)

ALWAYS get a second opinion when given advice. You would do it for your human family members, yes? So do the same for the furry family members too.

Yeah, the medical stuff is tricky. I've always been really hesitant to give medical advice, because as a vet tech, you're taught that that's not your job, it's the dr.'s job to give the advice and make the diagnosis. As a pet professional I'm always very careful to make sure that someone understands when I give them advice that I'm not a vet and they should check with their vet to make sure, because I could certainly get sued if I happened to be wrong, and I could also be charged with practicing vet. medicine without a license. I definitely don't want that on my hands, so I usually leave the medical stuff alone and say 'check with your vet' unless it's something fairly simple. I take care of a lot of my own dogs' medical care, except shots since you have to be a licensed vet to give the rabies vaccine. I haven't had to take any of my dogs to the vet in probably over 5 years, but I'm pretty comfortable treating minor issues myself. I agree that kind of advice, though, should always be double checked. Even if someone has experience with the issue you're dealing with, people often get facts incorrect or slightly off from what the real truth is- and you have to remember, this is an internet forum and you have no idea who the person on the other end is!

Right on your right. You never know the person on the other end of these computers.

We have several moderators now and things will be a lot better in regards to threads getting off target. Discussions on these type of boards are sometimes difficult to control because so many topics are opinions with no evidence to support either side of the arguement. Once the older more experienced trainers on the board gain the confidence of the members I believe things will run a lot smoother. We are open to any suggestions.

Spartan,
It is understandable that some threads will go off topic which can be and is a good thing under some circumstances. The one thing that everyone has is an opinion whether or not it is supported by research or not is another story. If you do not prefer to read what others have to say then perhaps you should not post on a thread as your opinion is treated with the same respect you afford others.

Spartan Oh Dear Spartan....looks Like You Are Getting Pretty Inappropriate Yourself There. Take A Joke Relax And Rememebr Why We Are All Here. To Have A Good Time Learn From Others And Did I Say Have A Good Time Yet. That Is The Joy Of America And These Types Of Places.

I hate to go back to the same subject again- but this IS afterall a discussion forum, a place to discuss. There is no forum god that says we must stay on topic in every thread, after all, that's how discussions go, in many different directions. I have to agree with Maura- I think Spartan's language is much more inappropriate in an all ages forum than going off topic.

And spartan- You are right about one thing. No one misses a forum member who doesn't contribute to any threads except to stir up arguments and use foul language.

I have been a member here for a long time now and I really have not fund problems on this forum as I have sometimes other places. I love the fact that I can learn so much from diffrent people and hear diffrent opionions on things. Moderating a forum is not an easy job and I think all of you have been doing a wonderful job.

Getting upset that a topic at a discussion forum gets off track is ridicioulus. Sometimes you need to get off-topc to cover the topic in question!

Honestly when I ask a question here I get several good on topic responses right off the bat.

Glad to here that since I am so oftne off topic. I just get talking and typing and it takes me in all diffrent directions. But I learn so much from others here. It would be real boring if everyone just answered yes and no and single answers and didnt explian themselves. Other then animal abuse and Puppymills not much can get me upset on the forums. We are people from all over the world meeting and talking about our pets our thouhts and sometimes just being plain silly. This is a great site. I'm a lover not a fighter anyways:p

sorry last post

1. peeps ask a question in a post...so answer the question, they diserve it.
2. if you get so off topic you should start a new post. Why? people aren't likely to get all your great info if under "what should I feed a small dog" if you are posting if a certian breed is aggresive, start a new post.
3. I never said don't go off topic, read the post, I said start a new one.
4. Yes it is a forum to discuss dogs, however, it is utterly rude to have an argument under SOMEONES post when you are not on subject.
5. if this is how you chose to run this and everybody likes the way it is run, then I will be on my happy way. Other sites running boards like this, do not tolerate such obvious flaming of posts. I would not like if I were to ask a simple question and have two people go at it on an off topic subject. If that's how you all like it, then again, I will be on my happy way.
6.I cannot believe/understand how no one here gets what I was trying to say.

good night and good luck

I would not like if I were to ask a simple question and have two people go at it on an off topic subject.

You ask a question, then people discuss their view points and faults with the others view point if they disagree. In other words they have a discussion, on a discussion forum?
