Hi there =-) Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this! My mom just got an 8 week old Pug, however it has taken a shine to me. Any puppies we've ever had before have always been confined mainly to the kitchen, which I've never liked, so I'm trying to train this dog to be allowed all over the house -or at least the ground floor.

A quick insight to my ground floor, It's like this:

Kitchen - Living Room - Parlour.

So far the dog has been really good, it has peed and pooed in the kitchen. One thing I noticed is it seems to pee on the newspaper, but not poo. My mom was always told the whole shoving it's face in it's poo to teach it method, but I think that's cruel so I want to train it myself!

We do not have a proper yard so we cannot let the dog out. We want it to do it's business on newspaper in the kitchen. So far it's been going well, and we've let it run around the ground floor. However today I noticed it had pooped in the parlour, but peed in the kitchen. What would cause this? And how would I go about breaking this habit? It's pretty much my first attempt at toilet training a dog, so all advice is welcome!

I can't provide too much feedback, but I will say that I've seen and successfully pulled off the sticking their face in the poo trick... Its not as cruel as you might think... its saving us all some time so that we don't frustrate one another, I felt.

Sticking their faces in their poo IS cruel. Would you want someone doing that to you, to make you learn how to use the toilet? I (personally) do not feel that pushing their faces in feces teaches them anything.

As for wanting the dog to go in one room specifically, have you tried blocking off the other rooms? Confinining your pup to one specific room might help, or if you see your pup starting to go, scoop him up and take him to the proper area where the elimination is allowed. Give a command (go potty, go poo, etc) praise and treat when the deed is done. This is how I worked it out when Lily was a pup, it took 4 days for her to get it right :)

I have 5 week old Pug... He is poo'ing and pee'ing everywhere. He goes far away to a corner of the room and poos and pees just about everywhere.

During the day, I put him in a crate when after his play time. I take him to the bathroom before and after food and many times in between. Sometimes, he pees there and sometimes, he poos too. I praise him after he does..

I immediately take him to the bathroom when I see him pee'ing. But no use ...he pees in the bathroom but runs right back into the house and pees wherever he wants too.

I dont crate him in the night, then late in the night, he pees every where and poos right in the middle of the room. :-(

I cannot take him out yet as he is not vaccinated. So I am trying to get him to go only to the bathroom.

Do you think I can leave his crate opened and leave it in the bathroom at night ?

What should I do such the he learns to goto the bathroom during the day and even at night ?
