Itchy Skin

After I bathe my 11 week border collie, she begins to scratch herself a lot more. I was thinking that I was drying out her skin, so I got a new moisturizing puppy shampoo- but still she itches. When my boyfriend washes her, she doesn't itch- but she ends up still smelly dirty. Am I putting too much shampoo, or washing her too long? Is there some kind of conditioner I should be using?

First off, how often are you bathing her? If you bathe too often, you can strip your pups skin of vital oils for her coat. Or she could be scratching for other reasons, such as allergies. Try using a moisturizing shampoo and a conditioner would be a good idea. If she continues to scratch, I would seek a vet's opinion.

My Lily had this problem. I had to shop around, went through many types/brands of shampoos before I found a relatively inexpensive one purchased from my vet that she wasn't allergic to.

Thanks so much- we are trying not to wash her but around 2 weeks, but you know it gets- sometimes they leave you no choice. So, I will definitely try and find some other products.:)
