barking when friends/strangers knock on the front door.

I have a 4 year old female shih-tzu, that barks when friends or strangers knock on the front door...does anyone have this same problem? she can go the whole day and I never hear a peep out of her, except when visitors come. I would appreciate to hear what other shih-tzu owners say about this behaviour, and what suggestions they would have that might turn her into a more welcoming non barking shih-tzu.

Lily barks at anyone who comes to our door. Other times, she only barks on command (for the most part anyway). I've taught her the sit, down, stay command as well as "quiet, no bark" with a treat after she obeys. As long as I am consistent with the commands, she does okay. Of course Lily is not a shihtzu, but any dog can learn a no-bark command :D

Yep, our shihtzu follows the no bark command too!
