Must be really sickening when that is your breed.
I once had a link to a place where they were mixing poodles with shepherds. No it did not make me happy.

It is because people really buy into the crap the breeders tell them.
They don't shed(really cause poodles do shed). They have less health problems. How can breeding two dogs with different health problems make them go away? That some day there dog will be registered with AKC. Have you ever seen a dog registered with AKC that has the name of the two breeds it started with?No .Doodles will never be registered with AKC as they can not reproduce themselves....

i hate the Doodle thing. it is just make'n more pups that will prob. end up in the pound.
well i hope they stop this stuff soon!!Question: if you breed a low-shed dog like the poodle & a reg shedder does it really reduce the shedding? i would think the pup would shed about reg.

I had a client that fell for the ''low'' shedding b/s. They bought a goldendoodle. He shed like a yak. They were pretty disappointed about that, but fortunately loved him too much to 'get rid' of him.
I have seen boxerdoodles and boxadors- boxer/labs. It made me pretty sick, 'cause like we don't have enough lab and boxer mixes sitting in the pound. Nobody wants a big black dog unless you give it a fancy name like boxador, and even then they only want it for up to two years. *sigh* It must be fantastic to be so ignorant of the euthanasia rate.

I feel no matter what you say to people that are swayed by these BYB breeders (and that's talking nice about them) that they think you don't have any sense. Sometimes I believe they don't want to know. It's already on their mind to get this kind of dog and that's it.
Personally I have never seen any of those doodle Xs that are pretty. That Roodle dog was so ugly--it even looked like it stunk. All dogs shed--some, like my breed, a lot more than others. The only time I feel anyone should mix breeds is for a specific purpose. Like I have seen a lot of Golden/Lab crosses used as service dogs and guide dogs. The other thing there is you are mixing 2 similar type dogs. No the AKC is never going to register anything like that because you're right they don't breed true. I don't think people are interested in making them breed true, just the initial sales money they can get.........

I'm a poodle "purist". I hate to see them mixed with anything. and I agree that the resulting puppies aren't ever going go be a recognized breed, because there is no breed "standard", and for that matter, they can't breed "true" anyway. when you breed 2 different breeds of dog, you have really no idea what you're going to get in the end. I personally know 3 "golden doodles", and not one of them looks like either of the others. the most you can say is that they usually (but not always) look like the mother. not one of them is in any way non-shedding.
people who breed these so-called designer dogs make a point of saying that the puppies are "one of a kind". that's actually true-there is no way there will be another one identical to it. but a lot of these crosses create some serious health risks and concerns. most of the dogs I've ever heard of have some kind of possible genetic disorder, and when you cross a poodle with a golden or a lab, you're running the risk of Addisons (common in poodles) and hip displaysia (a major problem for retrievers.) also, the muzzles are shaped very differently. often there is insufficient room in the mouth for proper teeth deveolopment. I knew a cocka-poo once, and he'd had to have major, and very expensive surgery to correct that problem. I'm sorry to see that this has become such a popular trend. it's a bad idea, and it's not good for any breed. |
