My dog is 5 months old and 50 pounds... he is a white German Shepherd (possibly mixed with something else but we are not sure, he just looks like a White German Shepherd but his rear does not slant down like a german shepherd).

Well this is my first dog so it is a learning experience for me. I have talked to friends who own dogs and done tons of reading. I am trying my best! My husband had dogs growing up but they were farm dogs (herders).

Well, our puppy Thor is teething and we are trying to keep items around for him to chew and toys around for him to play with. He loves softer toys with a squeaker to chew on right now but he is tearing through every thing in about a week. He will chew a Nylabone sometimes.

Here's my question:

Can anyone direct me to some decent dog toys and/or chew toys that have worked for their large breed dogs? :)

Thank you!

Welcome
White shepherds don't have the same look as German shepherds AKC show ones.(which is a good thing)
Here is the site to the American White Shepherd Ass.

Kongs are good chew toys. You can even put peanut butter in side which would keep them busy for a while.

One of my dogs tears apart everything, & rips pieces off of rubber kongs. He's only a 19 lb schnauzer but he is driven! Ones I've found that are indestructible (except the hanging tag) for him are Tuffies. http://www.edogtoy.com/retail/files/

I've found them at a number of dog supply stores.

All fleece toys with hanging legs, ears, etc will be shredded. Air kongs he's unable to shred. He will shred the rope that is attached although that's one of his favorites. I thought he was doing ok with the kong wubba until we walked yesterday & I saw pieces in his stool. I'll only let him play with those under supervision from now on. They say the extreme kongs last longer than others, but I don't really like the idea of an obstruction from eating all of this stuff!!

Good luck!

I think part of his tearing comes from not being well socialized when young. I got him in January after 2 different families "didn't have time" for him. He's very quiet in a crate - unfortunately that's where I think he spent a lot of time and the rest of the time he was supposed to be quietly playing with his toys - instead he developed his shredding technique. He doesn't have to be crated now, and I have him running, jumping, walking, chasing, etc. so less time for shredding. But he does have jaws of steel for such a little guy!

i mix yogurt, honey, banana, kibbles, and peanut butter in kong and freeze it, all that or any combination she loves. it doesn't entertain her as long as people say though. she is done in about 20 min. but with a puppy, i am happy for 20 min.

My puppy seems to love the stuffed animal kind that make voice also. I recently purchased the loofah dog for him. And he loves it....I recommend it
