I don't own one, but got to meet a whole group of them and their humans. So I'm considering getting one; here are my impressions. Do you agree?
Pros:
Minimal grooming requirements
Very healthy breed, almost no genetic health problems
Active when out but also very mellow when the people are mellow at home
Athletic, clean, healthy appearance
They "check in" with their people regularly even when playing off leash, so you probably never have to worry about one running away if it has bonded with you.
They will place themselves in between their people and another person/animal who might be perceived as a threat, yet they aren't aggressive toward that stranger.
Not excessive barkers.
Generally get along with other dogs, but want to hang out mostly with their own breed.
Cons:
Maybe not very affectionate/demonstrative/people-oriented?? A little too "independent" for a someone wanting doggie companionship??
Not a great watchdog? Will they bark, growl, or do anything at all if a stranger comes through the front door and mommy is in another room?
Other question:
What are the personality differences, if any, between males and females?
I'd appreciate any feedback from folks who have experience with RRs. Thanks!
