You should typically switch at 1 year. Depends on your breed. Switching at 6w is cutting the amount of fat and other essentials that your puppy needs to grow. But that again really depends on what you are feeding. I have heard that some breeders don't use puppy at all. I'm sure its to cut their costs. But it is not in the best interest of the dogs.

Rottweilers are a breed that you want to grow slow.
I also feed Canidae all life stages and expect the puppies to continue to eat the same.

unless your going to feed an all life stages food like Rutylr does, I'd use puppy food for at least a year as smooth suggested. depending on the breed, you may even want to keep feeding it til 18 months. I guess the best question to give you the best answer is...what are you feeding?? that'll determine a lot

Large breed dogs do not need to be on puppy at all.
Danes,Mastiff's and Rott's are dog you don't want to grow too fast.
My first Rott was on puppy food till he was one.
After him all others were on adult as a puppy.
here is a Dane site I found googleing feeding great dane puppies.

I disagree with that statement. They do need slow growth but they still need the high fat content for brain development. I will agree with you about the bone growth but that is not the only thing you should be concerned with.
