I guess this is my first step into the new dog world

Hello! I dislike introductions, so I'll just start with the basics.

My name is Andrea, soon to be 21 from Southern California.
For my 21st birthday, besides perhaps going to Vegas, I decided I wanted a puppy. I suppose that's where I should stop and give background info.
About 10 years ago [give or take a couple years], we have a German Toy Miniature Poodle named GiGi. Oh did we love her. She was my grandmother's lap dog. We always had bows on her ears and she always smelled like a perfume puff. When my brother was born, she snapped at him a lot. We didn't like the idea, but instead of wanting to deal with it, my grandmother gave her up.
After a couple of years, we tried getting a dog again. We went through them fairly quickly, our last being a Dachshund, but she tore up our carpet, so we gave her back, and that was the last of animals in the house.

As I got into Junior Highschool and the like, my want for a doggie companion completely vanished, sad to say. Here I am now, older, with a job, and with friends...who have busy lives, my grandmother no longer with us, and I feel I'm ready for a doggie companion. Actually, I feel I need one.
A funny picture of a Mini Dachshund was posted on one of the very many forums I belong to, and I decided that's what I wanted.

I searched online and found an adorable Chihuahua/Dachshund mix. I emailed the people, waiting on pins and needles for them to email me back. Almost a week and not a response. My good friend who is a complete dog lover told me not to put all my eggs in one basket, so to speak, so I continued my search and finally found EXACTLY what I was looking for:

An all black, smooth hair, female Mini Dachshund.

I don't have her yet, I have 3 more weeks until she's ready. Her name will be Pandora. The breeders have already started calling her that. I am so very excited.

I decided to join this forum so I can learn things, and learn how to keep my dog healthy and happy. I'll be doing a lot of reading, so sorry if I do not post much and/or only post questions.

First, welcome to DD! It is great to see new “faces”.

Secondly, it is wonderful to hear that you realize the dedication needed to truly experience that human-canine bond. There are so many informative threads on this forum and my philosophy is that no one is ever done learning. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask. There are some fantastic, knowledgable folks that frequent here.

Your pup is cute too btw. Congrats on her arrival in your life! I hope you have many happy years together.
