My mom called with a delima. My stepdad was burning a brush pile. It had been burning for a while when he went to check it. He saw movement at the edge of the burning pile, but it was much too hot to get very close, so he wasn't sure what it was. He took his rake, stretched as far as he could reach, and raked what he saw away from the pile. He was shocked by what he found it to be. It was a little white kitten, not much more than a week old, it's eyes just opened, and still alive! My mom didn't know what to do so we had her bring the kitten to us. After close examination we found that it's belly was a bit red and the fur on one back leg was singed, but other than that it's ok. My mom gave it to us and I have been caring for it since yesterday evening. I am feeding it with a small bottle made just for baby animals and it has a good apetite. It's a little female and has a few pastel spots of color in the white and is semi long haired. It is nothing short of amazing that she survived as the brush pile had been burning almost a solid hour and the heat was intense. There was no sign of any other kittens nor the mama. Soooo, we have a new kitten and bet you can't guess what we named her? Just like the bird of legend this little kitten rose from the ashes of the fire so there was only one name that we could name her....Phoenix!
