A tragic story. I will be checking back with the reporter as to what has happened since the article appeared in our local Maryland newspaper.

I would think she has previous records of her dog being groomed and how he reacted then to the grooming process.

thats a hard call. The article talks about a grooming process taking two hours, I can do that if thats the only dog to be groomed that day. I usually have someones dog about 4 hours, thats with 8-10 dogs to groom. the dog could of been having siezures, who knows it was a 14 yr old dog. Grooming is a tough job, very physical, the dog should not have been abused and I would never tolerate someone at work abusing a dog.

i took my dogs to pet smart to get a bath and when we drooped them off i said DO NOT DO THEIR NAILS . well when we went back they said that the one dog bit them . i said what were you doing ,they said clipping there nails .
i said what part of DO NOT DO THEIR NAILS bid you not understand .
well all i got was a dumb look.
that was the last time my dogs went to a groomer .
if you cant handle a dog that does not want to be there than they should not be doing grooming.

I had the same thing happen. My dog didn't bite she was just very old and i knew would be more comfortable with me doing them. What do you expect of teenagers i guess. No real groomer would work there.

My previous GSD was a very alpha dog around other dogs. She would not back down from a challenge and it was not some just noisy squabble. She would draw blood if another dog challenged her. She would however play normally with very submissive dogs under close supervision. I spent years in private training with her to get such dog aggression under control somewhat.
I took her to PetSmart once to be bathed and just a general grooming because we were in the area on that day. I said several times that she could not interact with the other dogs (I had actually called first to see if they would even agree to groom her) and was assured she would be kept separated. When I came back to pick her up there was a different man there and the first thing he said to me was "She did great with the other dogs! In fact she is back there right now playing with them." UNSUPERVISED. I was so upset. As far as I'm concerned, it was plain 'ol good luck that there hadn't been a dog fight. She was with an akita and a chocolate lab. The akita was just a pup (about 5 months old) and the lab was a senior dog.
I will never forget that day. I have never taken a dog to PetSmart again. My mother got her dog groomed there last year and they did a terrible butcher job on her and this dog had been groomed for years without any resistance.
And that was my PetSmart grooming rant lol.
