Hi, my yorkie's nail is bleeding. i put flour on the nail and wrapped the foot in gauze (probably with more gauze than it needed). how long should he be wrapped up.. how often should i check to make sure the bleeding stops? i'm worried since this has never happened b/f. any advice would be most appreciated.

If you live where there is snow like me, take her out side and let her walk around in that for a while. It will stop the bleeding and relieve any pain. Take the gauze off that is un needed and may cause more harm then good. If it is really bleeding badly get to a vet. For the future make sure you have quick stop at home. It works alot better then flour.

Thank you for the advice. The gauze is gone and thank goodness Toby is not mad at me. I will be running to the store when it opens to get the proper supplies. :)

were you cutting the nail .

i don't use clippers i use a dremel tool with a sanding disk and take the nail down a little at a time .

this tool works good it stimulates the nail and not a snip .

try it

I use a grinder as well but would NOT suggest you use one with a tiny dog like a yorkie.

I use a dremel with a the small sander on my mother's tiny poodles. If you do it slowly and carefully, it isn't a problem. I use it on my own dog also.

when we had a dachshund we used the small sanding tool.
you just have to push the pad back so you do not catch it .

I even use a dremel on my puppies. It is so much easier than clipping
