HOUSTON -- A pit bull was shot by deputies as they attempted to contain it in southwest Houston Monday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Two Precinct 5 civil deputies were working out of a storefront near Troulon Drive and Beech Cove Lane when they spotted a pit bull running loose.

Deputies said they noticed a group of children waiting for a bus nearby and attempted to block the dog's path with their patrol car.

Animal control was called to the scene while the deputies tried to contain the pit bull in a nearby yard, officials said.
O! fficials said a deputy then fired his weapon at the dog, striking it in the foot, as it charged another deputy.

Animal control arrived on scene and was able to sedate the animal and detain it, deputies said.

Neighbors and witnesses said this was not the first time the dog has been loose and tried to attack people.

Investigators are questioning the owner of the pit bull, who arrived at the scene moments after the dog was detained.

The pit bull is alive and in stable condition, according to authorities.

That is a shame. The owners of this dog really need to step up and take responsibility for their dog. There is no reason that the pit should be roaming around, especially more often than on just this very occasion.

it seems that all the wrong people own pit bulls. people who don't really understand what the challenges are to this breed. (and there's a new member here who thinks he wants a presa, but he knows almost nothing about them, except that they are very aggressive)
there is a saying about, "no bad dogs, only bad owners", and I think there's a lot of truth in that. bad owners, in the sense that they shouldn't have that particular breed at all, or that they have been negligent in training. that's when the authorities have to step in and wound/kill the dogs.

Just like parents of wild kids. On the show Supernanny and Nanny 911, you always find out that it is really the parents fault that the kiddos are acting out. It always comes back on the parents. So I definitly believe that it is up to you, the owner, to decided how your dog acts.

I love Nanny 911. I thought Yvonne was a hoot. but it's not on anymore where I live. too bad.
my married sister has 2 sons, and her former brother-in-law and his wife had 2 sons as well. my sisters kids were, and still are very well-behaved. the brother-in-law walked out on wife and kids, who up til that time had been wild, uncontrolable monsters. I hated to be around them.
my sister always told me that when there was conflict between the parents, it was the kids who expressed it. she was right. as soon as their philandering father was out of the picture, the kids settled down, and the home was a much more relaxed and happy place.
why should it be any different for dogs? they are very sensitive animals, too.
