Yesterday a contractor at our house told us when he was trying to change his house insurance, he was unable to get a new policy because he has a dalmation. I live in Northern California. Anyone else experience this?

I didn't realize that insurance companies can refuse to insure you based on your dog's breed. I did find some resources on the AKC website about this issue.

I never thought of this issue for people giving up their dogs but there are a ton of dalmations, pits, chows, etc in our area up for adoption. I wonder if that's some of the reason.

My mom moved and bought a new house last year. She has a husky and the new company wasn't going to insure her,but since he is 14, blind, and diabetic they let it slide but told her they would not cover another one.
