Please save my cat from my 4-year old

I have a female cat who is about 8 years old and in good health. She just went to the vet for shots and a check-up. She is spayed, but has claws. I trim the claws every couple of weeks and she doesn't scratch furniture (sometimes one of my carpets, but not too bad). She has a small growth in her ear, but the vet said that if it is not bothering her (which it is not), just to leave it alone.

My situation is this: I have a 4-year old who for years has bothered the cat and spends half the day carrying the cat around by the mid-section, legs dangling. All I listen to all day and all night is the cat meowing, but the cat has only reached out to scratch my daughter once or twice with not even a mark. No form of reprimanding seems to get through to my daughter. I cannot take this any more and I'm sure the cat is pretty tired of it to. My parents took the cat in for 6 months or so, but then they got a dog and the dog tortured the cat worse then my daughter, so we took the cat back. I also have a 2-year old who is starting to bother the cat, and I am expecting a baby in June. So, we are a very full house and I'm afraid that the cat gets much more negative attention than she deserves.

She is a sweet cat and likes people. If someone is interested in giving my poor cat (and me) a little peace and quiet, please send me an email and I can send pictures.

Why am I not suprised that she cannot control her child? I hope the cat finds another home, she doesn't deserve him if she can't keep her kid from pestering the snot out of him and dangling him around like a toy.

O i disagree. I don't think the cat minds it. My kids play with my cat simular to that and he loves it. He doesn't like to be put down. I would assume if a cat of all creatures allows that, it's probably ok with it.

I have eight cats. None of them would be pleased to have someone dangling them around by their stomach for most of the day. That's not exactly a comfortable position. Some cats may not protest simply because they're too good natured, but I doubt any kitty truly likes that kind of rough handleing on an regular basis.

Cannot take what?.. Teaching her child how to treat an animal properly?
That situation sounds disturbing to me and not only for the cat.

She hasn't tried everything. Probably has a copy of "It takes a village" sitting on her coffee table.

lol. Ya really. What a good example to set for her children
