Dog parks aren't recommended because of the unrurly and poorly socialized dog go.

I go to do parks all the time. Knock on wood never had an issue. If a bad dog comes i go home.

I also frequent the dog park--since my beagle mix NEEDS to run, and I can't manage that (I have arthritis which makes it too difficult). I"m sure our park is a smaller one than most--which makes it easier to deal with. I run into the same group of people at the times I go--which is also nice since I know which dogs my dogs get along with, and which dogs to avoid. I was very happy to find the park.

You guys are lucky then, I have had no such luck as well as others I've spoken to about it...

I am from Alberta Canada and we have lots of beautiful dog parks to go too.
Only problem my dog is huge and likes to play so i see all the owners of little dogs scooping up their babies. understandably but Tuxedo wouldn't hurt a fly, i still find myself putting him on the leash just to keep others at ease. Defeats the purpose of an off leash park?

We need dog parks for large breed dogs, not likely to happen but it's a thought? We moved out to a lake front where he has tons of room to roam but i still wish he had more interaction with other dogs his size.

We are not allowed to leash the dogs at our park. And really we don't have too many little guys around here. Those people just let their dogs run free every where else. lol:mad:

A good dog park should have seperate enclosures for small breeds and large breeds.
I don't know of any in your area but maybe you could try doing a search on-line for one? Or call your local humane society. Become familiar with the laws concerning the dog park as well.

Where I live (student apartments-was military housing) we didn't have a dog park at all, and the vast majority of the hills and beach areas don't even allow dogs. The property management company saw that we had 3 baseball fields, all not in use and turned one of those into an off-leash dog park for the neighborhood dogs. Unfortunately, I no longer bring Lily there. We had an issue one evening while I was there, the owners clustered in one area while the dogs played on the far side of the field. Lily naturally stays near me (thankfully). A fight broke out between two dogs and the owners there just stood there...no one even made a move to break it up. I ran over, but by the time I got there, 2 more dogs had jumped into the ruckus. Another owner and I managed to clear out the dogs, but the bottom one (the one being ganged up on) was dead. And none of the other owners did anything about it.
I know there are many responsible owners, but I have yet to meet any at this dog park. So I just take Lily to one of the open soccer fields or one of the few off-leash beaches and let her have her fun.

My dream is to open a local dog park in my town or a neighboring town. I know so many people who would love to have a place to run their dogs and allow them to socialize and there's no place here for it.
