My new roomate has an animal room. She espeacially loves small animals.
Her ferrit has adrenal cancer and she wants to get the gland removed.
It costs thousands of dollars she cannot afford. Is there any inexpensive way she can take care of this.
Her dog(a sheltie) loves her small animals. My dog a scottie sits and studies them. My dog Trixie(italian greyhound and beagle mix) runs around looking at the animals.
I think they can all be trained to get along. They enjoy lizards too.

Adrenal Disease is VERY common in ferrets. I have one older male who has a touch of adrenal disease, but it isn't as severe as it could be.
Typically the surgery around here costs anywhere from $400 - $600, so you may want to check another vet to get a second opinion and price on fixing the little guy.
Normally AD sets in at a late age, around 4-5, and ferrets typically have a 6-7 year life-span. My little guy now is 6 years old, he was a rescue and lot the healthiest guy ever when we got him. Adrenal set in about 6 months ago, but we feel that he is too old to be put through a surgery he might not make it out of.
To my knowledge, there are no "home remedies" for AD...
There is, however, several drugs that can be effective:
- Lupron
- Lysodren
- Melatonin
Some ferrets who are non-surgically treated live very healthy lives afterwards, some have side effects from the medication, and others are not a success on drugs at all.
Talk to a vet who specialize in AD in order to choose the best route to go.
Good luck!
