View Full Version : An Apology To Breed Ban Enthusiasts

I'm sorry you are frightened of my dogs and are trying to have them
killed because they are pitbulls.

I'm sorry you lack the understanding of this breed's true history,
gentleness with people, wonderful temperament, intelligence and
behavioral conformation. I'm sorry you won't read the ATTS stats
regarding our breed's true temperament, putting it in the top four
for temperament, scoring better than breeds like Golden Retrievers,
and cocker spaniels.

I'm sorry that you side with and protect animal abusers by marking
the breed of dog, and not the irresponsibility of the owner. I'm
sorry that by your logic I could steal a car, run some people over
with it and then you can blame the make of car for the accident, as I
walk free.

I'm sorry you generalize one breed of dog with one group of people.
I'm sorry you can't see the love and determination that many often
highly educated, non-criminal and "normal" types of people show
towards this breed and the great personal sacrifices that they make
to take care of their dog responsibly.

I'm sorry you cannot go into the shelters and see the hundreds of
abandoned and abused pitbulls, dying only for the inane "crime" of
being born the breed they are. I'm sorry you cannot see the look of
disappointment in their eyes as someone walks by their kennel, and
refuses to consider adopting them based on an ill educated fear
mongering reporter. I'm sorry that you cannot be there when the
animal looks at a human for the last time, and in spite of betrayed
by all humans they have met, their tail still wags as someone
approaches with the syringe of Euthinol.

I'm sorry cannot be there when law enforcement shoots one of your
dogs dead inside it's own home in front of the children it mutually
loves for simply getting off the dog bed and walking over to say
hello with it's tail wagging. I'm sorry you cannot be there to rescue
pitbull puppies from a plastic bag in a dumpster, dumped there by
someone switching their illegal, and inhumane activities to another,
more lucrative breed.

I'm sorry you cannot understand the difference between canine and
human aggression, in the way that this breed can. Yes, I'm saying my
pitbull is smarter then you.

I'm sorry that the medieval witchhunting genetics of intolerance,
generalization, and racism make you feel the need to vilify a breed
of dog. I'm sorry that justice, equality, tolerance, common sense are
all things you hold dear as a fellow Canadian, and expect from
others, but do not yourself offer them towards a pitbull or its
caregiver. I'm sorry that you don't take the constructive time to
petition changes in the Canadian animal cruelty act, and in the
criminal code that would deal out serious punishment to the real
animal abusers.

I'm sorry you cannot see the disappointed look on a puppy's face when
the people petting it quickly frown, and walk away when you tell them
it is a pitbull. I'm sorry you feel the need to terrorize my family
and my dogs for crimes we never have and never will commit. I'm sorry
you don't have to live in fear of your dog's safety from hysterical,
and mentally unstable people trying to inflict all manner of evil
upon your dogs.

I'm sorry that you cannot see my breed working in some of the best
Search and Rescue groups in the world, saving countless lives each
year. I'm sorry our media censors and refuses to print the breed
name "pitbull' when in connection with a positive act such as saving
a person or child from a burning house, drowning, wild attacking
animals, etc. I'm sorry you cannot see the many pitbulls registered
as therapy dogs and bringing so much joy to another misunderstood,
neglected demographic in our society, the senior citizen.

I am sorry you can't see a pitbull kiss a child, step carefully over
a kitten, or play in a sunbeam. I'm sorry you cannot wake in the
morning to feel a warm pitbull cuddled next to you in bed, and know
that you are their total world, and even if the house caught fire and
trapped you, they would stay with you to the end.
But, now that I really think about it, I'm not at all sorry you don't
own a pitbull--you do not deserve one.

Amazing paragraph -- brought tears to my eyes because nothing brings me more comfort than waking up in the morning with Indy looking at me and wagging his tail. Thanks, Marty.

has anyone thought to...
look into the number of pits owned in relation to the number of pits involved in inccidents?
The number would of course have to be an estimate...but the last time I heard the Cocker was still top of the list for bite inccidents.
I would bet the actual percentage would be low...

has anyone thought to...
actually determine the true breeding of the dogs, classified as pits, reported as pits, involved in incidents? A recent attack in my area the dogs were classified as pits, but were actually mixes...the incident in san fransico a few years back, the dogs were not pits they were Cane Corso's...
the guy down the street from me insisted his dogs were pits...I told him I did not think they were...way too large to be pits....a call to the breeder determined they to are mixes...Pit/Bordouex...

TO ALL DOG OWNERS....regardless of whether you agree or disagree with the breed restrictive legislation surrounding the Pit...keep in mind, your breed could be next!!!! We need to convince the municipalities and governments seeking to employ breed bans that it is the owners of incident animals who need to be punished...not the dogs!!!!
case in point...the recent attack in northern Illinios...the dogs got into the guys pot...they were stoned!
...and still they want to blame the dogs!

Believe me I would never agree with banning any breed. I am total against BSL. When you wrote about Cockers I agree I own two of them and I have always heard they are high on the list or maybe number one bitters. Dont quote me with my stats. I just know that I was told that or warned that. My two guys are great.

This makes me cry, too. As a new owner of a staffordshire bull terrier, I have to register my bitch with the police, yet the last incident of a dog mauling somebody involved a Labrador-she attacked her owner. I have been bitten in the past by a pekanese(sp?) but I blamed the owners for not socialising it properly, and it didn't stop me loving dogs. Dogs bite when they're scared. Some people are scary, but never dogs.

When I walk my puppy, everyone passing wants to stop and pet her. When they ask what breed she is, they're surprised at her sweet temprament, and how great she is with other dogs. You just have to look into her eyes to see there's no badness-I've never experienced such unconditional love.

That was sad... Brought tears to my eyes... While I have never owned a pitbull, I did end up fostering one that I found on the side of the road coming home from work one morning... Named him Bruno... He became very attached to me in a short time and LOVED playing with my rottweiler, Baxter-- those two were the best of buddies and he loved to train... He was excellent in obedience and taking corrections, was very gentle... I would have loved to have kept him, but I was living in Dade County, and well, there is a pitbull ban there and huge fines, could have been kicked out of my apartment(and it was the only apartment to take rottweilers), etc... I ended up keeping him for probably a month, fibbed about his breed the whole time(American Bulldog-people can be dumb about breeds) and found him a home in Broward County. I cried... I would never hesitate, when I finally own my first house, to get a pitbull... Bruno was a amazing dog.

My Lab and I were attacked by 2 Cockers 4 different times. The owners just didn't think it was a big deal because they are cute little dogs. Its a good thing my lab is so doscile because he could have hurt them. He just tried to hide behind me.

I just had to respond to your post. One of my Toy Fox Terriers was killed by another dog recently while I was out walking her. It Was NOT a Pitbull. It was a Lab/Australian Cattle Dog mix.

I was show secretary of our breed club several years ago (U.K.C.). We used to host the Pitbulls. We would have 50-75 Pitbulls in one place, at one time and NEVER saw aggression from these dogs. In fact, one of my favorites, a burly, blue, male, was put in harness to pull his ex-pen and supplies. He walked through the grounds pulling his supplies and carrying a stuffed animal in his mouth. I swear he smiled at everyone he passed. Cute, cute!

Last week my next door neighbor and I watched as a group of teenagers gathered in our association park with six Pitbulls. Clearly, they were intent on fighting the dogs. We were both going to call the sheriff but as we watched these kids working these dogs it was clear the dogs weren't co-operating. They all wanted to play!

Certainly the breeds chosen for fighting have aggression that can be tapped but it is the people who exploit these animals who cause the problem.

and people wonder why i prefer my pits over them. as for the movie i just saw( the one posted by patch o pits ) that is one sad video. if my trailer park would allow me to have more dogs i would be at the animal shelter first thing in the morning getting every pitbull i could.
one of my bosses claims to be an animal lover, he has lots of them. he still claims that pits should be destroied. i looked at him funny and asked him why. his answer made me mad. he said that they are vicious dogs refering to an incident that happened here in midland, tx. a woman and her dog were attacked by a pit the police officer (in my book jack booted thug ) shot the dog. did nothing to the three boys. the three boys were not arrested. they laughed while the woman and her dog were attacked.
i told my boss who is anti-gov and media that he's falling into the mediahype about breed specific destruction. then i told him that if they ban pits what's next your dog who is a bull mastif?
the subject then turned for the worst, another person said he would trust a chiuawa over a pit. i told him that i would not they bit far more people then pits. he said that he never heard of a chiuawa bitting someone.
i told him that they are not considered a dangerous breed but they should be.
i will take all the pits in the world over any other dog that is out there. i have been raising pits for 5 years. i have never found a more loving, obediant, and totally hooked on me and the family dog anywhere else. they are one dog that will give you an ego boost everytime you look at them.
everyone who knows me, knows that i love pits. the trailer park manager was talking about restricting them from the park, that was until she met my big baby. she droped the petion. now we do have a person in the park who has pits and they are suposed to be mean, i didn't know so i went and started petting them. the owner told me that i shouldn't pet them because they will bite, i just laughed at him. the guy who owned them asked me if i had pits, since then we have had long discussions about them.
i have never met i pit that i didn't like.
