Well, we decided to take in a mini schnauzer that was too much to handle in 2 homes!!!! The first couple had twins, and the second couple couldn't handle him with their work schedules. At least the 2nd couple realized it right away. I'm just glad I could step in and have this sweetie join our family.
He's 1-1/2 years, knows basic commands, housebroken and is very sweet. Pretty hyper, on the wrong food, some itchiness. His hair is cut too short so I suspect he's had some skin problems no one knew or would admit. So will be switching over his food slowly. Already bathed & treated for fleas which has relieved a lot of his itching. I think he either has a flea or food allergy, so we'll work on that. I also suspect some of it is stress. He loves running in the back yard, retrieving & playing with toys, and giving lots of slurpy kisses. The older dogs are keeping him in line and setting their boundaries. So have the parrots! We have some training to do. But so far so good. He's a couple of inches taller than our current dogs, so he can get to the coffee table - LOL. Some puppy proofing to do! It's been a while.
I think we received this dog to remind us of how good & easy Annie was!

He's a great eater. I just hope I'm giving him enough to make up for all of that energy. He's 19 lbs. no and about 14 inches at the shoulder. Very slender but can't feel his ribs.

That will be a while. His puppy energy keeps the others leery of him right now. Molly the shihtzu is coming around, but Georgie the 11 yo schnauzer is teaching him manners!

Well, I was told he was leash train...yeah ...to pull me down the street! I'll pick up a lead and work with him. Sheesh you people who train are a godsend to newbies. If I hadn't already work with my previous dog, I'd be in a class as soon as possible. But I'm going to give it a shot first. Lots of classes around here.

Congrats - to you and Finnegan (who's getting chance #3)! In a way it's nice to have older dogs to do some doggie discipline and remind the newbie of his place in the general sceme of things. All are happy knowing exactly where they stand! People have different ideas of leash training, I guess! Have fun working with him!

It's too bad Fin had to wait until home #3. He's very happy though. I don't think there was abuse, just not directed attention. He's already learned high fives. It helped in breaking his jumping, now he sits then jumps up for high fives.
Thanks for the compliments everyone - he is cute. I love the smile. He gives hugs, and loves to lay next to my husband for tummy rubs. I've heard him sigh once he realizes I'm going to keep hugging him!
Looks like there are a few of us with new pups in the house. Life goes on, doesn't it!

We have a giant and of course 100 times more a little one. But thinking of getting a aminatur? my big boy is alot to handle. Yours is cute. Tuxedo is cute also but he thinks he is a lap dog? Someone told me before the only diffference between the two two is the poundadge? by 100 lbs.a giant is abig deterrant here in Mexico and i'm no sure a 10lba. schnauzuer will cut it. but the two of them may work. Tuxedo is a a big baby really??

I just looked at your photos - what a handsome and BIG boy. In the pool, he looks the same size as you. My husband really wants a giant schnauzer so I've done a lot of reading on it. I've read sometimes the giants will be aggressive toward little dogs. I don't know how true that is. I guess it's like the miniatures love to chase squirrels, the giants love to chase small fasting moving animals, even if it's a small dog. I've never had my dogs around a giant except to cross paths on walks. You might want to spend some time with someone who owns minis before getting one to see how they are together. Although someone has a photo posted on this forum with a giant and a chihuahua. So like all dogs, it's individual. As a deterrent - my minis would let anyone in and leave with them! I had one who would at least bark when the doorbell rang. Now none of my dogs do! But the minis are great for walks and for cuddling. They however do NOT like water.
