Hello everyone,

I wanted to thank you for the help the last time with my puppy that was peeing whenever you came around. It is getting a lot better, the advice really helped. This weekend we noticed a new problem that started and I would like your advice on.
We have 3 dogs, 2 older bassett hounds and then the 6 month old mastiff. We noticed this weekend that that mastiff is eating the other dogs stools. It is a nasty habit and we would like to stop it ASAP. What do you guys recommend? I keep the yard clean, I pick up after them each evening to maintain my grass, but she seems to eat them right away. Is there something I can do to stop this habit? Please help.

there is stuff you can buy from your vet, maybe petstores that you put in their food (all the dogs) and it makes the poop taste really bad. There are also sprays but if you are going to bother going out to spray you would probably just clean the yard lol. My mil on the other hand swears by childrens vitimins. She gives them to her pit in the winter cause she likes poopsicles and she says it keeps her from eatting them.

The stuff you can get at petsmart is calle Deter. It changes the odor and taste so that it's very undesirable for the dog. You feed it to the dogs who are porducing the poo that's being consumed, so you'd probably need to give it to all 3 just in case.

Can you keep her on leash for a few days when outside so you can more easily redirect her if she seems to zero in on some poop?

Deter works well for some dogs, not so well for the hard core poo munchers. I've found that a combonation of supervision and leashing along with a food additive works best.

Good luck!

Reggie used to do that ..only in the winter, she liked poopsicles..would try to bring themin with her!! YUCK!!
Anyway, I put alittle bit of canned pumpkin in with her food..guess it makes it taste bad LOL..It did stop her from munching though

My dogs do not eat one another's poop but all 3 will try to eat horse manure and goat pellets. That is gross as well especially when you have little kids who like to tell the dogs to "gimme kiss". Ick.
I just always try to correct them just before they would actually get to eat it. A jerk on the leash if "leave it" doesn't work alone. You know whats funny is that I have seen Lucy look around and if she knows I am watching her, she passes the tempting poop piles up but if she thinks I can't see her, she goes right for it.
