New paintings!

I have been painting (why I restrain myself to lurking a lot, else nothing would get done)! I plan on doing some dog pieces soon, but in the meantime just thought I'd share these other recently finished animal pieces with you guys (seeing as so many of us love other animals, too).

***Disclaimer***I use the term finished loosely (claiming the all to convenient "artistic license"), most of these do or will have - often after I stare at them for days - glaring problems, err.., little touch ups needed, so done is not always done !

You might recognize these two - I saw these two kitty photos in the rotating pics on the top of this very site. I kept seeing these and loved them as potential paintings - so I contacted the owner of the photos and she kindly granted me permission to use these! I've been an artist for 25 + years, but these are my first serious attempts at cats ever (aside from some watercolor sketches of our clinic cats a year ago). These are oil on canvas.

And here's what I've just finished up last night, it's acrylic on canvas. Horses (and painting them) are my first passion, so it's always a treat to work on one.

You are always your worst critic but that's what makes you better. I love the last one.

Wow!!!

They are awesome!

The cat paintings are so fantastic! And the horse one looks too real to be a painting. You are really talented. That is fantastic, lol, its the only word going through my mind right now, fantastic, fantastic!

Wow, the horse looks amazing!

Any particular stable/rider/horse in that picture, or just something you dreamed up? Either way, it looks fab!

Thanks, guys!

Smooth, your right! It's a typical artistic trait being one's own worst critic, but it's what drives us to do better - besides, it's kind of fun insulting ones own peices !

BelovedJugernaut - That is a specific horse/rider, I just need to look up who it is. I spend lots of time at our local track, Rillito, taking pics. It's a really small time track ($1000 claimers) and only has 7 weekends a year (Jan.- Mar.) of racing, so that horse or his operation probably aren't well known beyond the rather modest Arizona circuit.

Linnea, I love Fresians, but haven't gotten to do any (yet) - I just need to get some good reference since there are so few around here! I do have one photo that I have on my rather long list of future paintings though, if I do it I'll let you know!
