SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- If you're planning on spending long hours at the mall this holiday season, why not take your best friend with you?
That is, your four-legged best friend.
Located in Chula Vista, the Otay Ranch Town Center is the first mall in the county to allow you to bring along the perfect shopping companion: someone that doesn't complain or tell you what to buy and someone that always stays by your side. That’s because they are on a leash.
According to Audrey Herz-Marlow, senior marketing manager for Otay Ranch Town Center, all of the stores, with the exception of REI, allow pets to accompany their owners inside. This was the idea behind the design of the center, which just opened for business Oct. 27. The pet-friendly atmosphere encourages visitors not to leave their pets at home next time they want to shop or be entertained.
The center offers a fenced-in 10,000 square foot no-leash dog park. But that doesn't mean the two of you have to stay in the park. The shop-lined sidewalks are equipped with water bowls and clean-up stations, inviting owners and their pets to shop as well as play.
During the holidays the center will be holding a special pet event: A photo-op with Mr. Claus. Pet Nights With Santa will be held Tuesday evenings, beginning Nov. 21 through Dec. 12, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
