Gator Pit?

Can some one tell me what a Gator Pit is? Someone was selling a litter on craiglist and it peaked my interest. Lol

I think it's related to color somehow- hopefully someone else knows!

Well, I thought it was a bloodline, but I googled it and this is what I found

: "Gator Pit or "King Pit" are terms often used by novices that aren't familiar with Pits. You often hear "What kind of Pit is he or she", there is only one kind of Pit the American Pit Bull Terrier. There are however hundreds of different bloodlines. There was once a famous Pit named Champion Aligator from Texas that was mentioned in several books maybe this is where the term "Gator" came from.:

This has happened with dobermans, too, with a dog named Warlock. Warlock was a massive dog, waaay larger than the standard permits, that produced a lot of dogs. Occasionally I've had people ask me if I have a doberman if it's a 'warlock doberman or a regular doberman'. There's no such thing as a 'warlock doberman', they're all dobes just the same. I don't even know if there are any remaining warlock decendants, and frankly, I hope not, because because they're so oversized it's thought that they were actually cross bred with great danes to produce the large size- some breeders even say that warlock 'breeders' did permanent damage to dobermans alltogether.

Yeah, I had to revise the search for 'gator pit bulls' instead of gator pit.

Technically "Gator" is not a line, in and of itself, but there ARE several dogs people refer to as Gator: Plumbers Ch Alligator, Lloyd's Gator, Crenshaw's (Rodriguez) Ch Gator, to name a few.
and yes, typical BYB's will say they have a pup from Gator lines, just to sell yah something! ;)
