Ok besides Pit Bulls, Staffies, and Rotts, what breeds are suffering from BSL? If you have another breed give me an example of why/how they are being hurt by it. Like an accident where that breed attacked some body or some thing.
Thanks in advance!!!
Oh so you know I am writing a really long report for school.... 7 pages at least!!!! Crazy professor..... Lol

Akita's are also being affected by the breed ban.I've only seen one or two stories of where they have attacked a child.Akita's will not tolerate being teased by a child if that is what happend, but people consider them an agressive breed. There being targeted in several cities and in the past 10 years I've only read of 4 attacks by an Akita.

Thanks!!!! I will get them in there ;) My professor is high in political ranking (somehow Lol I dont understand a word he says when he talks about it) but if my report is good he is going to send it to the governers, etc who are trying to ban breeds etc.

Turner, you'll want to look into specifics probably but breeds I've seen on insurance included german shepherds, anatolians, ridgebacks, chows, akitas, rotts, dobes, pitties, boxers, mastiffs, and in Australia there are even bans against great danes and greyhounds!

I felt as though my GSD Holly was treated differently because of her breed just today. I had to take her into the shelter to have spay sutures removed. She was fine, sniffing at a younger girl who worked there and just looking all around (pulling a bit trying to get to the large kitten cages but no outright aggression). A young boy carrying food dishes practically became spiderman and crawled across the wall to avoid her. The woman who helped me (who I’ve never met there before) said to me “Just don’t let her bite me”. I smiled and said “Oh she won’t, she’s a big baby.” The woman looked at me and snapped “That’s what they all say”.
Maybe she didn’t mean it directed exclusively to GSDs but it sure sounded that way in the manner in which she said it. I bit my tongue but it bothered me.
When my previous GSD was alive, I could not find any insurance that accepted a GSD as a breed, or even a GSD mix (I tried that as well lol). Before we bought our current home which is zoned agricultural (and so enables us to get agricultural insurance which thankfully does not restrict certain dog breeds) I had to sign several waivers excluding my dog from the insurance. She had obedience certificates and a clean record but no one cared. She was judged by her breed, not by who she was. I find it so ironic that people can support BSL and yet speak out against human prejudice.

I understand that comment. Please don't take it the wrong way. I have been snapped at by just about every breed you can imagin. Dogs just act different when they get to the vet. But i good tech can feel them out.

No offense taken Smooth. There is more to the story but I am really bothered by it and just don't feel like posting it here. I am waiting until I can talk to the woman I know from there. I already had concerns and today did nothing to appease them.

I don't think she meant GSD's at all. I can relate to her sentiments completely, as I've worked with literally thousands of dogs over the last 13 years- and every owner says 'oh he's a big baby'. I've been bitten plenty of times enough to know not to trust the owner's description of the dog's temperament unless i've gotten to know that owner well or I've gotten to know the dog. However, not very good bedside manner on her part for saying that out loud, while I think it every time I hear those dreaded words, I'd never say it out loud to a client. There are much more sensitive ways to address the subject without offending anyone.
Turner, there was a recent bill here in north texas, and I believe rott lover posted it in a thread under advocacy and legislation- they actually considered banning ALL large breeds! anything over 50 lbs! can you imagine?? The insurance thing is a big one because a lot of people can be denied home owners insurance if they own a certain breed, even if the dog doesn't have a history of aggression or bites. PetSmart is now offering daycare and boarding here in north texas- and they don't allow pits and a couple of other breeds, either. It kills me that petsmart will preach about education but then ban pits from daycare alltogether, without temperament testing them or anything. They won't even allow mixes of them!

Yes, I posted it... Desoto, Texas... Also to note, Texas has a no breed ban law, Desoto was trying to go against Texas law, which wouldn't fly... If Texas didn't have the no breed ban law, I have a feeling that they would have banned certain breeds...
Insurance is a big thing... Home Owners Associations is also a big thing, if you buy a new house, some HOA's will have weight limitations, breed bans, etc. Rental Communities is also a big thing... Just kind of assumming from experience at looking at cities and apartments, roughly around 80 percent of the rental communities in the US will not allow pitbulls, rottweilers, GSD, akitas, dobermans. My percentage is being nice.
The PetsMart that's close to me got a earful from me, and I had Joy with me, who behaved magnificently while I talked to the manager about their BSL in their Doggie Daycamp.

Where I live Akita's aren't banned or restricted but I can't find anyone to rent me a house because of his breed.I've told them I'd let them meet him,I'm a member of the ASPCA and a certified dog trainer. The closest we got was a guy who wanted a 1,ooo dollar dog deposit ontop of first, last and security.I hate some people!!!!

Do you not like history? Generally, history is kind of a gimme course since it's fairly easy if you read... History is interesting, it tells you our past... I have found all the wars of the past to be interesting in their own ways... Just read up and learn... Any yes, I'm proud of you, you may not realize it, but you probably educated your teacher in the process of your teacher educating you on how to write... Good job!!
