Horse Show!
Alright, after months of trying....
I finally clipped my horse. For those who have never owned a horse and don't know what it is like to have a horse who HATES clippers... this was a huge accomplishment! In the 4 years I have had her, she has NEVER let me touch her with clippers. (Which was my fault since I had her when she was 10 months and never tried to get her used to it when she was young).... Anyway, she is body clipped & all pretty for tomorrows local ETI show. I think I am only going to compete her in Halter mares, maybe ride her later in the day... who knows. Anyway, wish me luck! |

Good luck to you!!! Ok, I won't comment on the horse clipping--from a fellow horse owner. LOL Hopefully, it will now be easy on the both of you.

What fun! Body clipping a horse who hates clippers is an art form in itself! We'd usually instead bend over backwards trying every trick to keep the winter coats from showing up (lights, blanketing, etc
)! What kind of horse and what kind of event (other than halter)? It's been years since I've owned or shown, but I still get to all kinds of shows to take pics for paintings. Good luck at the show - let us know how it goes!! |

Good news!
My little devil did pretty good this year. we only did Halter- Mares since I wasn't feeling too hot and didn't want to stay the entire show, plus I don't like Western Pleasure all that much... barrel racing would have been another story though! We placed second, and the judge said we would have placed first if she wouldn't have pranced so much. We were getting ready to go into the arena and another horse got loose and spooked the crap outta mine, so she stayed all hyper throughout... All and all, I am proud! She beat out some gorgeous horses, one paint in particular that I thought was a shoe-in. Anyway, 2nd isn't too bad! Quote:
I normally only do Halter at those shows. I don't like Western Pleasure because I have a horse I have trained for speed. She is an exellent barrel runner, and now that she is 5 I can really start getting into it more. I have been working on her bending and lead changes, since she was only used for a trail horse up until now. Her practice times in racing are in mid 20's, but I run her slow to build up muscle. I think that by next summer she will be running 15/16's, but I am really hoping for a 14 time... she was born to do this, so I am crossing my fingers! |

Congratulations on the second!! It's hard when you're horse gets freaked by something, then has to be still and pose. I loved trail back when I showed, it felt like such teamwork! I would have enjoyed barrels, but my appy was lazy and slow, and didn't like to run - and believe me, I tried... it was a sad, sad sight

Wow!! Congrats to you!! 2nd place, that is awesome! Good luck on your barrel racer, I love watching that stuff--looks exciting. I could never do that, the horse would go one way, and I'd go flying the other way!! LOL

I have a Quarter/Arab cross and she is just built for speed & endurance. She is the fastest at the barn, but also the one with a hot temper. She is a handful, btu she is a very competitive horse with barrels, she hates the show ring... some animal you just can't make do it, and she is one of them. |

Congrats!
I tried clipping my riding horse once just to see if the clipped image appealed to me and she promptly bit me, lol. You have to know this horse but that was actually better than what I thought she'd do. She's my rescue gal and as ornery as she is, we have a trust between us that I wouldn't trade for anything. And she is awesome on the trails, the most sure footed horse I ever rode. Hubby has started doing amatuer pulls. He was invited to the Dayton Fair next summer but he doesn't think he will be ready until the following summer.
