I just love this forum. I am learning so much and getting so much help raising Max the right way. Here is a problem that really isn't a problem but I thought "why not ask about it".

Max is stinky. He is an indoor dog for the most part. We let him out about 2 hours a day to play in the backyard and he gets at least two long walks a day. We have bathed him twice since we got him. He is now almost 14 weeks old. He is a dalmatian so he is a short haired dog. When he is outside, he rolls around in the grass, on the ground or anywhere. After the bath, he smells great for a day. After that, it is stinky dog time. Is there some sort of spray on stink remover? It would be great if I had something I could put on him once a week or so to make him a little more pleasant smelling. I love him all the same but it would be nice.

Thanks!

Dalmations, I believe, are prone to skin problems, possibly causing the smell. You may try garlic tabs and mixing fish oil in his food for the omega 3 oils. They will give him a shiney coat also. I mix a couple spoonfuls of canned pink salmon in Luke's supper and his coat is nice and shiney. He likes it too. :D Gotta have a "shiney weimy".

You could look into feeding your pup a raw prey-model diet. Raw fed pups rarely ever have a "doggy" smell, and have odorless breath. Feeding large food also helps slow him down while he eats, which I remember you were also worried about. Geiger rarely ever gets baths, and I never really smell him, well, unless he decides to roll on his fish! :D

If you have never had a dog with ears liek that before, that may be part of the problem as well. A lot os dogs like that will have ear problems, not necessarily infections, but just a lot of dirty & very stinky problems.

When we got our Beagle, he had very dirty/stinky ears, it took us a while to figure it out, but it was the ears that were a problem. You might want to check to see if that is where the smell is coming from, and I also think a trip to the vet to make sure it is nothing serious might be a good idea too!

Good luck with your stinky, lovable, dog!!

I second the dally's have skin issues. Ears are also a problem area. But some dogs just smell. You could try the waterless shampoo wipes. Or some talc powered or not to be crude but FDS works wonders. This will be something you will have years to work with. I hope for your sake it lessens with age. My current puppy is on the stinky side. lol. But that isn't typical of collies i think he just likes to roll in things.
