Hello everyone, I was searching the web and found this website and thought everyone here could help me. We just recently got a Neopalitian Mastiff about a month ago. She is just over 3 months old. She is a great puppy and well behaved the only problem is that she pees when she gets excited or whenever you touch her. It is a bad habit and we are hopping that she would grow out of it or is there something we can do to stop it? Thank you very much.

Submissive wetting is pretty easy thing to deal with if you start now. Don't talk to her or even look at her when you first walk in the house. take her straight outside and after you know she has done her business then get her as excited as you can before you bring her in. In the house if she has an accident take her directly outside. It may take a little bit since she is little. But by 6m you should have her out of it. My now 9m old pup went thru that too. We brought him home at 6m and it took about 2 weeks to break.

Smooth,
Woud that work with an older dog? I have been doing the ignoring part but he still does it. I usually don't let them out of the kennels until they are quiet. takes forever, but they finally simmer down. If I go to pet him or even talk to him, he leaks.

My Lucy girl did this. Oddly enough, the behavior started after we had her for a couple months without any known reason to me. We all ignored it totally, acting as if it didn't happen. She did the submissive urination for closer to a month's time but she did stop and doesn't do it anymore.

I would just be patient and not pay any attention at all towards the behavior, no coddling, no excitement, and definitely no scolding. Clean the mess up quietly. I think it is something your pup should outgrow in time. I did have a dog trainer tell me it is a sign of an anxious dog, that along with the raised fur along her spine when she meets new people/dogs/what have you. I was told submission is often mistaken for anxiety. Not sure how true that is but it makes sense to me. Lucy has always been the 'shy' pup and used to hide under our bed as an 8 week old pup but as she grows, she has been becoming much more confident than she used to be.

I've had him since he was 5 months old. He was never properly socialzed as a pup. I have been patient and he gets no better. It is not always an issue, but when he is on his back and it sprays up, it is gross. I feel bad as he lives in a state of worry. I have started walking him and he actually pee'd after many walks. He would hold it all day, refusing to go until we got home. i took him to a show once where we were gone 13 hours. He would not go. I have never seen him move so excitedly and swiftly to our back door tho.
