Four years ago today, we adopted our first dog. I knew when I looked at her at the shelter that she was destined to be mine and I knew there'd be no looking back. Boy was I ever right.
Sally is a kind, sweet, and intelligent girl. If a dog was ever capable of compassion, it's my dear girl who has a nurturer's heart. Mother to all the foster puppies, kittens and baby birds that come in and constant worry-wart when anyone might be playing too rough, she helps hold the family together. Everyone who meets her loves her and knows that she's a pretty special lady.
Sally is the first dog in my life and she has been a martyr through the ignorant dog owner phase (feeding Retriever and leaving her outside while I went to work in a town where dogs have been poisoned before!) and is reaping the benefits as I learn more each day how to better take care of her.
My sweet yellow girl has seen us through lots of hard times, and some very happy times, and has never let anything get her down. She has learned everything I've ever tried to teach her and then some- including obedience, rally, agility and "just for fun" tricks. We take her *everywhere* and have ever since we got her. From my in-laws' to the beaches in Maine, she's seen a lot and I hope we continue to have this much fun with our baby girl. Happy birthday, Sally!!
And Toby, my sweet Irish boy, turns one year old today! We've only been together for about 4.5 months but we're inseperable. My first puppy, he's something special. I went to meet him and bring him back for Irish setter rescue and I fell in love with him before I even had him in my car. Walking alongside me, grinning up at me with the *look* in his eyes as though we were best friends, he literally "had me at 'hello'."
Happy birthday my babies and I hope to celebrate many, many, MANY more with the two of you!!!!
